Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writting this letter to inform you about the rubbish spread by many visiters at the counrtyside. I spent more than an hour near farmland and enjoy waking there because of peacful environment and having fresh air. It is my favorit spot for walking as it diconnent me from my daily stressful schedule.

However, many areas of counrtyside got polluted by many others walkers. They left rubbish like empty can, plastic and litter of there pets.As consequence, beauty of village area gets effected and local people stay there face problem such as, bad smell and disease.

To reduce this issue, I wound suggest to take fine for spreding litter. Also, run campaign to spred awarness of keep city and area clean. This can helps to might the problem of rubbish.

Thank you for your time and attention. I look forward to hearing you soon.

Faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you explain that you enjoy the countryside for its peaceful environment and fresh air, describe discarded cans, plastic and pet waste, and suggest fines and a cleanliness campaign. The purpose is clear and the letter is relevant throughout. The description of where you walk is somewhat vague (“near farmland”), and the effects on residents and the proposed campaign are mentioned briefly rather than developed. To strengthen the response, give a more precise location and explain how one or two measures could work—for example, placing bins at popular paths alongside clear signs about penalties. The polite opening and closing also suit a letter to a newspaper; a more conventional sign-off would make the tone slightly more natural.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening that states the concern, a paragraph describing the litter and its effects, and a final paragraph proposing solutions. “However” and “To reduce this issue” help signal the movement between these stages, so the reader can follow the main progression. Some connections are less smooth, however: the sentence about the effects shifts abruptly from the countryside’s appearance to local people’s problems, and the final sentence (“This can helps to might the problem”) does not clearly express how the suggestions relate to the outcome. Use clearer links between cause, effect and solution, and make references such as “this” point unmistakably to a specific measure. Paragraphing is appropriate, though cohesion is not consistently controlled.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main message, including “rubbish,” “plastic,” “fresh air,” “fine” and “campaign.” However, the range is limited, and repeated or imprecise wording sometimes makes the letter less clear. For example, “litter of there pets” is not a natural way to describe the waste, while “spread” is used where “littering” or “dumping” would be more precise. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “writting,” “visiters,” “counrtyside” and “awarness,” which can distract the reader. Build a small set of accurate expressions for litter and prevention, and check spelling and collocations carefully. More precise choices would make the message clearer and more persuasive.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, such as the sentence beginning “However, many areas…” and the explanation of the effects on local people. The main ideas remain understandable, but grammatical control is uneven. For instance, “I spent more than an hour … and enjoy” shifts tense within one sentence, and “many others walkers” has an incorrect plural construction. The sentence “This can helps to might the problem” also combines verb forms incorrectly, making the intended meaning difficult to follow. Articles and sentence punctuation need attention too, as in “As consequence” and the run-together “pets.As.” Practise keeping verb forms consistent and building accurate sentences with modal verbs; this would make your varied attempts more reliable.
