Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to report about the littering issue going on at the walking way of Narmada River Park. It had been a troublesome issue as I see more and more litter left at the park by some walkers.
I am mainly writing this letter because I constantly find some of the walkers in park is not using the designated spots to leave their garbages. I visit the park daily to do my daily walk and exercises because of its natural beauty. It is so relaxing there, because it helps me to rejuvanate and refresh myself from all my tensions. Moreover, the park is pet-friendly, and my dog like to play with his fellow dogs there at the park.
Obviously, the most common things I see regularly on my walks are people throwing dog poops and food wastes to the walkways and its water body. As a result, the water is contaminated at the park, and I am afriad it is going to affect the poor creatures living in the park.
Therefore, I request you to kindly publish an article or news about this matter, so that the authorities will get alerted and take stringent actions against these habitual offenders. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Best Regards
Gokul

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three points: you explain that you walk daily for exercise and the park’s natural beauty, describe dog waste and food waste, and ask the newspaper to raise the issue so authorities act. The purpose and generally formal tone are clear. However, some parts are less fully developed than others. The description of the litter is brief, and the proposed response focuses mainly on publishing an article and taking “stringent actions”; you could make the solution more specific, such as adding bins, signs, or enforcement. The opening also says walkers are not using designated spots, but this point is not clearly connected to the later description of waste on paths and in the water.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear overall progression: you introduce the problem, explain your connection to the park, describe what you have observed, and make a request. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “As a result,” and “Therefore” help show relationships between ideas. The reader can follow the message throughout. To make the organisation more polished, avoid repeating the same point about visiting the park and littering in the opening and second paragraph. Some links are also a little mechanical; for example, “Obviously” does not add a clear logical connection before the description. More precise referencing between the litter, its effects, and your suggested action would strengthen the flow further.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use an adequate range for the letter and attempt some less common expressions, including “natural beauty,” “contaminated,” and “stringent actions.” The meaning remains clear, but several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unnatural: “walking way,” “report about the littering issue,” “leave their garbages,” and “dog poops” do not sound idiomatic in this context. There are also spelling errors in “rejuvanate” and “afriad.” These slips do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim for standard environmental and public-complaint vocabulary, and check spelling and countability when editing; for example, “litter” is normally uncountable.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a reason clause (“because of its natural beauty”) and a result clause (“As a result, the water is contaminated”). Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, though some grammatical errors remain. For example, “some of the walkers in park is not using” has agreement and article problems; “my dog like” should agree in number with its subject; and “I am writing this letter to report about” uses an awkward grammatical pattern. There are also issues with articles and plurals in phrases such as “at the park” and “food wastes.” Review subject–verb agreement, article use, and sentence patterns after verbs such as “report” to improve accuracy while retaining your varied structures.
