Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am local resident who is residing downtown Queen street. The purpose of this letter is to request you to publish an article about the increasing garbage issue in our town.
I prefer to walk every evening in the Golden Conservation area because this helps me relax after a hectic day at work. I have been doing this ever since I moved in my house near to this place.
Lately, I have observed that a considerable amount of litter is accumulating in this green space. Most visitors leave their waste behind after using the products auch as plastic water bottles, food wraps and so on. This not only violates the beauty of this place but also polluting land.
I would suggest that the people should use garbage bins placed at the site to dispose off their waste materials. Moreover, the fine should be imposed on those who are spoiling the natural habitants.
I believe you will consider this problem worth publishing in your newspaper to make people aware about their responsibility towards environment.
Yours faithfully,
Suman

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three points and maintains a clear purpose: you explain that you walk in the Golden Conservation area to relax, describe bottles and food wrappers, and propose bins and fines. The details are relevant and the request for the newspaper to raise awareness gives the letter a suitable focus. The ideas are extended with reasons, such as the effect on the area's appearance and land, although the proposed measures could be developed further—for example, explain how fines would be enforced or suggest signs and regular clean-ups. Overall, the response covers the task clearly, with some scope to make its suggestions more specific and fully supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information is organised in a clear sequence: purpose, enjoyment of walking, the litter problem, proposed solutions, and a closing request. Separate paragraphs make each part easy to identify, and linking expressions such as “Lately,” “Moreover,” and “I believe” help guide the reader. The progression is logical throughout. Some connections are a little mechanical, however, and the final paragraph largely repeats the opening request to publish an article rather than adding a distinct concluding point. You could improve the flow by linking the litter’s effects more directly to the proposed actions and varying transitions, while keeping the effective paragraph structure.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for the topic, including “hectic day,” “considerable amount,” “accumulating,” and “dispose of,” and the reader can understand the issue and your suggestions. There are also some inaccurate or unnatural choices: “violates the beauty” would be more naturally expressed as “spoils the appearance,” while “natural habitants” does not convey the intended meaning (use “natural habitat” or “local environment”). “Garbage issue” and “waste materials” are understandable but somewhat general. Check spelling in “auch,” and choose collocations carefully. More precise environmental vocabulary and more natural phrasing would make the letter sound more fluent and controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter includes both simple sentences and more complex forms, such as “because this helps me relax” and “This not only … but also …,” so there is some variety. Meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors occur. The opening needs an article: “I am a local resident.” In “I have been doing this ever since I moved in my house,” the verb pattern and preposition need correction (“moved into my house”). The clause “This not only violates … but also polluting land” is not parallel; use “but also pollutes the land.” There are also issues with “the fine should be imposed” and “aware about,” which require more accurate sentence patterns. Review articles, verb forms, and parallel structures to improve consistency.
