Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to draw your attention towards an issues which am noticing that there is more and more garbage left on the trail near my home.
I live far from city so I cannot go to gym everyday to keep my self fit and healthy, so I go for walk every morning in woods near my house. Moreover, I love to spend time with nature and watch sunrise.
Since last month, I noticed few garbage bags on the side of the trail, Furthermore, wild animals destroying those bags and because to that gabage is everywhere on the trail, which can cause serious health problems.
I would be grateful if you write a news about this problem and request people not to throw waste in natural areas. Additionally, city authurties can also take strict action aganest these people who are littering here.
Your faithfully,
Jassmeet Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you explain that you walk in the woods near your home to stay fit and enjoy nature and sunrise, describe bags being torn open by wildlife, and ask the newspaper to raise awareness while suggesting action by the authorities. The purpose and generally appropriate formal tone are clear. The description of the litter is more specific than the proposed solutions, however: asking people not to litter and calling for “strict action” would be stronger if you gave practical examples, such as adding bins or signs and arranging regular clean-ups. The reason for walking is relevant, but could be expressed more directly. These details would make the response more fully developed and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: you introduce the problem, explain your walks, describe what you have observed, and then make requests. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and connectors such as “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” and “Additionally” show how ideas relate. Some links are less smooth or precise, particularly the long sentence beginning “Furthermore, wild animals…”; its cause-and-effect relationship is difficult to follow. The repeated use of additive transitions also makes cohesion somewhat mechanical. Use clearer sentence boundaries and vary the way you connect ideas—for example, explain directly that animals tear open the bags, scattering rubbish along the trail. This would make the progression more fluent.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the topic, including “trail,” “wild animals,” “natural areas,” and “health problems.” However, several noticeable word-choice, spelling, and collocation errors reduce precision: “garbage” and “waste” are repeated, “draw your attention towards” is awkward in this context, and “write a news” is not a natural expression. There are also misspellings such as “gabage,” “authurties,” and “aganest.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding your main message, but they make the letter less polished. Build a small set of accurate environmental and newspaper-related phrases, and proofread spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a reason clause with “so” and a sentence describing the effect of animals disturbing the bags. The main message remains understandable, but errors in sentence structure and verb forms are noticeable. For example, “an issues which am noticing” lacks a correctly formed clause, while “Since last month, I noticed” uses a tense that does not fit an observation continuing into the present. The sentence beginning “Furthermore” also joins several ideas without clear grammatical boundaries. There are additional errors in “go for walk” and “Your faithfully.” Practise accurate clause construction, articles, and present-perfect forms, then check punctuation and sentence boundaries.
