Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear sir / madam
I am writing to express my concern about the increasing amount of litter in the countryside .
I enjoy walking in countryside because it makes me feel fresh flowers are beside me me crossing the river gentle air which makes fresh morning. It makes whole day refreshing i also enjoy watching birds , trees and flowers.
However, recently while i am walking i noticed a lot of garbage plastic bottles, food wrappers, empty cans, paper bags , plastic packets lying on the ground. Some people also leave their rubbish near trees beside the roads . This makes countryside looks very dirty and unhygenic . It converts intro germs and effects the health of the people . It can also harm animals and birds .
I think something should be done to solve this problem . More rubbish bins should be placed in popular walking area . People should be encouraged not to throw rubbish on the ground . There should also be fine for people who drop litter.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you explain that walking helps you feel refreshed and lets you enjoy birds, trees and flowers; you list litter such as bottles, wrappers and cans; and you propose bins, public encouragement and fines. The purpose of writing to the newspaper is clear from the opening. These relevant details meet the task well, although the description of where you walk is vague, and the reasons for enjoying it are difficult to follow in places, especially “fresh flowers are beside me me crossing the river.” Your solutions are appropriate but could be developed by explaining who should provide the bins or how walkers could be informed. More precise detail and fuller support would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a generally clear progression: it introduces the concern, describes the litter and then offers solutions. Paragraphing helps separate these stages, and linking words such as “However,” “also” and “There should also” guide the reader. The overall arrangement is coherent, but some connections within sentences are unclear. For example, the sequence “fresh flowers are beside me me crossing the river gentle air” does not show how the ideas relate, and the litter examples run together without clear punctuation. The transition from the effects of rubbish to the proposed actions is understandable but abrupt. Use complete sentences, clearer punctuation and occasional linking phrases that show cause and effect to make the progression smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “plastic bottles,” “food wrappers,” “empty cans,” “rubbish bins” and “drop litter.” There is some variety in describing the countryside and its effects, but several word choices or forms are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “fresh morning,” “unhygenic,” “converts intro germs” and “effects the health.” These errors sometimes make the intended meaning less clear, particularly when describing the consequences of litter. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling and word forms. For instance, you could describe the air as “fresh,” say litter “can spread germs,” and explain that it “affects people’s health.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple sentences and longer structures, including “This makes countryside looks very dirty” and “It can also harm animals and birds.” The basic message is usually recoverable, but errors in sentence construction, verb forms, articles and punctuation are noticeable. Examples include “I enjoy walking in countryside,” “while i am walking i noticed,” and “This makes countryside looks,” where the article, tense or verb pattern needs correction. The opening description also combines several ideas without a complete, controlled sentence. Use a reliable mix of short sentences and carefully formed complex ones; check subject–verb patterns, articles and sentence boundaries. More consistent control would make your meaning easier to follow.
