Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to let you know about the condition of Jinnah fields these days. I go there ocassionally due to it's beautiful scenes and i love to sit there, walk there and spend some of my time while reading the books on the bench. The beautiful fields are really peaceful to see and their view is very calming to mind. But I have noticed some of the people throw trash and litter on pathways and even on ground which make the view very bad. If it will be continously happeining , then this thing will eventually impacts on the name of this area badly. I want to say if you will publish a news regarding this issue and highlighting the solution which is throwing the trash in Trash Buckets which are available there OR they can keep the trash along with them in plastic bags to throw on some suitable area. I will really appreciate it and I will thankful to you for Act of Kindness

Regards,

Muhammad Hassan Khan

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three points: you explain that you enjoy the peaceful scenery at Jinnah Fields and walking or reading on a bench, describe litter on the paths and ground, and propose using bins or carrying rubbish away. The purpose is clear and the suggestions are relevant. However, some points are less fully developed than others. The description of the rubbish is general, with no examples of what you have actually seen, and the proposed newspaper report could be explained more specifically—for example, by asking the paper to raise awareness or encourage enforcement. The opening is also addressed to “Dear Sir,” rather than the requested “Dear Sir or Madam,” and the closing could be more complete and appropriately formal.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The ideas follow a broadly sensible order: you introduce the place and your enjoyment of it, explain the problem, and then suggest solutions. The contrast introduced by “But” helps signal the change from positive description to concern. However, the response is presented as one long paragraph, so the separate purposes of the letter are not clearly signposted. Some connections are awkward or unclear, particularly “If it will be continuously happening” and the long sentence beginning “I want to say if you will publish a news.” Use separate paragraphs for the setting, the litter problem, and your request, and make the links between ideas more direct. This would give the letter clearer progression and reduce the impression of ideas running together.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “peaceful,” “calming,” “pathways,” and “trash buckets.” These choices help convey both your enjoyment of the fields and your concern about litter. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “beautiful scenes,” “impacts on the name of this area,” and “publish a news.” Spelling errors such as “ocassionally” and “happeining” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural expressions suited to a formal letter, such as “scenery,” “damage the area’s reputation,” and “publish an article.” More precise examples of the litter would also broaden the vocabulary used to describe the problem.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response includes both simple statements and attempts at more complex sentences, for example, “I go there occasionally due to its beautiful scenes” and the conditional sentence about the problem continuing. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. In “which make the view very bad,” the verb does not agree with the singular idea; “If it will be continuously happening” uses an unsuitable conditional form; and “I will thankful” is missing a form of “be.” The sentence beginning “I want to say if you will publish” also combines clauses without clear structure. Practise accurate conditionals and clause linking, and check agreement and auxiliary verbs. Breaking longer sentences into clearer units would help you control the grammar more consistently.
