Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter about the concerning of litter left there by other walkers.
I like to enjoy walking at evenings or weekends near my home. There is a very beautiful view of river there. I like to take fesh air in mornings bacause it helps to keep my mind and body calm.
I saw many walkers throw garbage at the walkways. Morever, there was leftover foods and tissues under the trees. There is also animals litters which pet owners throw just like that. The people eat there and throw the garbage on the same place. It is spoiling the beauty of nature.
I suggest you to put rubbish bins on the sides of walkways. You should also put signs of no garbage and put some fine for those who litter the garbage on these places.
I hope you will publish this letter in your newspaper.
Yours faithfully,
Jaspreet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points in the prompt: you explain that you walk near your home to enjoy the river view and fresh air, describe food waste, tissues and animal waste, and suggest bins, signs and fines. The purpose is clear from the opening and the closing is appropriate for a newspaper letter. The description of the litter is specific enough to be relevant, but the proposed measures are less fully developed: for example, you could explain who would install or maintain the bins, or how fines might be enforced. The reason you enjoy walking is also stated rather than extended. More explanation of these ideas would make the response more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, separate paragraphs for your enjoyment of walking and the litter, a paragraph of suggestions, and a suitable closing. This makes the main points easy to locate. You also use basic links such as “Moreover,” “also” and “I hope.” However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. In “The people eat there and throw the garbage on the same place,” the reference to “there” is not precise, and the sentence repeats the idea of littering without clearly advancing the description. A more deliberate progression within the litter paragraph, followed by clearer links between each proposed action and its purpose, would make cohesion more flexible.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the topic, with relevant terms such as “walkways,” “leftover foods,” “tissues,” “rubbish bins” and “fine.” However, several noticeable word-choice, collocation and spelling errors make the language less natural: “the concerning of litter,” “fesh air,” “animals litters” and “put some fine” are examples. “Garbage” is also repeated frequently, and “throw the garbage on the same place” is imprecise. These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding your main message, but they limit precision and fluency. Build a wider set of natural phrases for describing waste and public measures, and check spelling and word forms before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You communicate the main ideas using mostly simple sentences and make some attempts to combine information, as in “I like to take fresh air in mornings because it helps to keep my mind and body calm.” The overall meaning remains understandable, but there are some errors in sentence structure and grammatical forms. For example, “I like to enjoy walking” uses an unnecessary verb pattern, while “I suggest you to put” has an incorrect structure after “suggest.” Articles and prepositions are also sometimes missing or inaccurate, as in “at evenings” and “under the trees.” To improve, practise accurate verb patterns and article use, then add a few controlled complex sentences to explain the effects of litter and the benefits of your suggestions.
