Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear sir,

Hope this letter finds you well.

My name is Meet. The main concern of writing this letter is make you aware about the surrounding of the countryside.

Yesterday, I was walking near the community park which is located in the center of the village. As this place is quiet and calm, greenery and colourful flowers attracted me towards this place. Sidewalks are available here where I can walk without any intrruption.

Moreover, I saw that this location is getting dirty day by day because when people are walking there, they do not only have something to eat but also taking their dogs along with them which makes this place even more disgraceful. Individuals through garbage and wrappers everywhere in the park and around the footpath. This creates very bad smell and becomes the reason of the diseases for people.

However, this issue can be resolved by taking some adequate initatives. Some dustbins should be arranged there so individuals can use it to put garbage that will be helpful to maintain the beauty of this place. Apart from this, some banners must be organised to creat awareness among people that how tidyness is essential.

I hope you will take my words into consideration. Looking forward to hear from you.

Regards,

Meet

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points and maintain a clear purpose: you explain that you enjoy the quiet countryside, greenery and flowers, describe litter around the park and footpath, and suggest bins and awareness banners. These ideas are relevant and supported with some detail, including the effect of rubbish on the area and its smell. The letter is also appropriately directed to a local newspaper and ends with a suitable request for consideration. To make the response stronger, develop the proposed actions more specifically—for example, explain who could install or maintain the bins, or how the newspaper might help publicise the issue. The description of litter could also be more precise about what you have actually seen.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall structure, moving from its purpose to the walking location, the litter problem, and possible solutions. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and links such as “Moreover,” “However,” and “Apart from this” signal relationships between ideas. This gives the response a coherent progression. Some connections are less smooth, however: the opening moves from the reason for writing to the walk without a particularly natural transition, and the sentence about people eating and taking dogs introduces details that are not clearly connected to the litter. Use references and transitions more precisely, and keep each paragraph focused on one main point, to make the organisation feel more consistently controlled.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the topic, including “greenery,” “footpath,” “garbage,” and “awareness.” There are also attempts at more formal wording, such as “take my words into consideration.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural and make the letter less fluent: “the surrounding of the countryside,” “through garbage,” and “banners must be organised” do not express the intended meanings naturally. Spelling and word-form errors such as “intrruption,” “initatives,” “creat,” and “tidyness” are also noticeable. Aim for accurate, natural collocations rather than choosing formal-sounding phrases; for example, say that people “throw litter” and that signs could “raise awareness.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including a reason clause beginning “As this place is quiet and calm” and a sentence explaining the effect of litter. The main message remains understandable, but errors occur in several sentence patterns. For example, “the main concern of writing this letter is make you aware” needs an infinitive form, while “people are walking there, they do not only have something to eat but also taking their dogs” has an inconsistent structure. The closing “Looking forward to hear from you” also needs a gerund after “to.” Practise building parallel clauses and checking verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries; greater accuracy in these patterns would make your varied structures easier to follow.
