Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter to express my concern about the litter left in the countryside by the walkers.

Firstly, I really enjoying walking near my house in the countryside area along with the river. It is very beautiful and clean. The greenery makes it more beautiful. I love to spend time here with my husband because I feel relaxed in this calm atmosphere.

Unfortunately, last evening I saw there is more and more litter left by the walker. For example, people come here with package food for a picnic with their families and they left this place all dirty which is running it's beauty and also effecting the birds and the animals life here. Along with this, they threw the packets of their food in the river as well that makes the river full of with trash.

I would like to suggest you that if you can publish an advertisement in awerness to make this place clean. Because people may will see the news and than starts maintain the cleaniness here and also may be the government can take some actions and make some rules here.

Thank you for you time and attention. If you want more information I am happy to assist you.

Yours Faithfully,

Anjali

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points and maintain a suitable, concerned tone for a letter to a local newspaper. The setting and reason for walking are clear in “near my house…along with the river,” and you describe food packaging, rubbish on the ground, and litter in the river. Your suggestions—publishing an advertisement and having the government make rules—are relevant. However, some points are less fully developed: the description would be stronger with specific examples of the litter, and the proposed advertisement and rules are not explained in detail. The letter is purposeful and covers the task, while fuller support and more precise proposals would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening statement, a paragraph about walking, a description of the problem, and a paragraph of suggestions. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Unfortunately,” and “For example” help readers follow the progression. The closing is also appropriate. Some connections are less smooth or precise, particularly the shift from the advertisement to government action, and “Along with this” introduces another example somewhat mechanically. The long sentence beginning “For example” combines several ideas, making the relationship between litter, the river, and harm to wildlife harder to follow. Clearer sentence boundaries and more direct links between each suggestion and its expected effect would improve the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the topic, including “countryside,” “calm atmosphere,” “litter,” and “advertisement.” There are also attempts to express effects, such as “running its beauty” and “effecting the birds,” but these phrases are inaccurate or unnatural and reduce precision. Spelling and word-form errors such as “awerness” and “cleaniness” are noticeable, while “package food” and “full of with trash” are awkward collocations. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but the range is limited and errors are frequent enough to affect naturalness. Aim to learn accurate topic-specific combinations and check spelling before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the main message is generally understandable. However, errors occur frequently, especially in verb forms and sentence construction. For example, “I really enjoying walking” needs a finite verb form, while “they left this place all dirty” shifts tense within a description of a recurring problem. The sentence beginning “Because people may will see the news” has an incorrect modal construction, and “if you can publish” is not smoothly integrated with the following clause. There are also agreement and article problems in “the birds and the animals life.” Practise building accurate clauses with one clear main verb, and check tense consistency and subject–verb agreement.
