Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter to your esteemed newspaper regarding garbage in the countyside area.

I live in krishna compelx, flat number 04, Bathinda, Punjab. I go for walking at village area near my home. This area is bigger in size and tress and plants are also attractive. The greenery of this village attarctive me and it is asthetic. This place feel me relax and comfortable.

Regarding litter, during walking I have seen there are lots of plastic grabage and people throw poly bags cans and other rubbish there. It can reduce the beauty of greenery and it looks ugly. It might also affect environment and animal.

It would be greatful if you help to neat this area and all the garbage fill in the garbage collecter bags. You should also aware to people about recycle their rubbish and could you please collecter garbage vans provide to this area on the daily basis they collect litter from their house.

Yours sincerely,

Madhuri.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points: you explain that you enjoy the greenery and relaxing atmosphere near your home, describe plastic bags, cans and other rubbish, and propose collection and recycling measures. The purpose of writing to the newspaper is clear. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others. The location is described generally as a “village area near my home,” and the proposed actions are not always clearly assigned: for example, it is unclear who should provide daily collection or organise awareness efforts. Add a specific detail about your walking route and make each request precise, such as asking the council to install bins or arrange regular litter collection.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening purpose, a paragraph about your walks, a description of the litter, and a final paragraph with suggestions. This makes the main message easy to follow. You also use basic links such as “Regarding litter” and “also” to connect points. To make the progression more fluent, connect related ideas more explicitly and avoid abrupt shifts. For instance, the final paragraph moves from cleaning the area to recycling awareness and collection vans without showing how these actions fit together. Organising the suggestions as a clear sequence—provide bins, arrange collection, then inform walkers—would strengthen the flow and make the relationships between ideas clearer.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “plastic,” “poly bags,” “cans,” “rubbish,” “greenery,” and “recycle.” These choices make the subject understandable, and “reduce the beauty” communicates the effect of litter. However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural combinations are noticeable, including “countyside,” “attarctive,” “asthetic,” and “garbage collecter bags.” Some repetition of “area” and “garbage” also limits the range. Aim for accurate, natural phrases such as “countryside,” “spoils the natural beauty,” and “rubbish collection service.” Proofreading spelling and choosing standard expressions will make your vocabulary more precise and effective.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You communicate the main ideas using a mixture of short statements and some longer structures, such as “This place feel me relax and comfortable.” However, control is uneven, and several grammatical errors make parts of the letter awkward or unclear. For example, “This area is bigger in size and tress and plants are also attractive” has problems with sentence structure and agreement, while “It might also affect environment and animal” needs more accurate article and plural forms. The final request also combines several clauses without clear grammatical links. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then join them with conjunctions; check subject–verb agreement, articles, and plural nouns when proofreading.
