Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is highly debateable in few individuals opinion that world wide sports events like Olympics or the World cups are best way to bring diffrent nation together. On the other hand rest think it creates competition not freindship. I belive that the latter notion is not true. We will discuss both aspects and my opinion in upcoming paragraphs.

To commence with, It is a great approach to organise sports event at international level because it can provide opportunity to talented masses in their own expertised game and countries hosting it can make fortune out of it by selling broadcast rights. Moreover, we can also learn about diffrent types of sports played in distict nations. To explicate it, according to the data published in newspapers cricket was first played in england 50 years ago but nowadays it is a famous sports and comes number two in terms of popularity. Thus, we can learn diffrent sports as well as it creates a opportunities for population.

However, it also can be a bad approach because when we are playing internationally we represent our country. In other words, if we potray a bad picture about other nations it can cause conflicts. Also, the children will follow the same anger among other countries all along their life. For example,an article in newspaper resite that during the match a football player made some inappropriatte gesture leaded the issue toward war between them.Hence, we should avoid this type of events.

In conclusion, although some inappropriate behaviour can leads upto some serious issue but having such events can creates opportunities for the persons to represent their native sports globally and counties organising it can make lots of money during these events.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both views and state a position in the introduction (“the latter notion is not true”), then return to your opinion in the conclusion. The discussion, however, only partly develops the central question of whether events foster friendship or competition. The first body paragraph focuses mainly on opportunities for athletes, learning about sports, and host-country revenue; these are relevant benefits but do not clearly explain how countries are brought together. The opposing view is linked to national representation and possible conflict, but the example of a gesture leading towards war is unclear and unsupported. To strengthen the response, explain how shared participation or contact builds relationships, and develop a realistic example of rivalry or tension. Keep your position consistent: the conclusion acknowledges risks but does not clearly resolve them.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting contrasting points, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “To commence with,” “However,” and “In conclusion” help readers identify the stages of the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes weak: the point about learning different sports shifts to cricket’s popularity without clearly connecting that example to international friendship. Some linking phrases are mechanical or do not express the relationship precisely, and the conclusion largely repeats earlier claims rather than drawing the discussion together. Improve cohesion by making each paragraph’s main point explicit, then linking each example directly to it. Clearer references and transitions between claims would make the argument easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt vocabulary suited to the topic, including “international level,” “broadcast rights,” “represent our country,” and “inappropriate gesture.” However, the range is limited and several inaccurate word choices or collocations make parts of the message difficult to interpret. For example, “expertised game,” “make fortune out of it,” and “creates a opportunities” do not express the intended ideas naturally; “resite” and “leaded” also show spelling or word-form problems. Repetition of “sports,” “countries,” and “events” further limits flexibility. Build a more reliable set of topic phrases and check spelling and collocations. Prefer precise expressions such as “showcase their skills,” “generate revenue,” and “increase tensions” where they fit your meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use both simple statements and attempts at longer sentences, including clauses introduced by “because,” “if,” and “although.” However, complex sentences are often faulty, and frequent errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries sometimes make the meaning harder to follow. Examples include “it creates a opportunities,” “the children will follow the same anger,” and “some inappropriate behaviour can leads.” Several sentences also run together, as in the opening and the sentence beginning “To explicate it,” where punctuation is needed to separate ideas. Practise building accurate sentences with one main clause and a clearly controlled subordinate clause. Check subject–verb agreement, singular and plural forms, and punctuation before adding further complexity.
