Some people believe that international sports events, such as The Olympics or the Football World Cup, are a good way to bring countries together. Others say that these events create competition, not friendship, between countries.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

I would say that both the views of people are correct as international sports events is good to bring talents from countries together and also it create competiton, rivals between countries. International sports is good way to bring talents from diffrent countires and show there skills but with these events the viewer audiance would create some rivalry which may affect to the countries.

Sports is a game challenge which required unique skills, tactics, teamwork, leadership and more. Which is why we need more participants from various countires to make that game more competitive and more challenging by which it is very helpfull to connect with other countries and connect with them as in olympics from all over the world the players come and participate in the event and players get more fan and love from varoius countires which help them to connect with each other and let them contribute there countries culture and all.

But also it may effect by the haters, and rivalrys which may cause troubles in the countries for that particular fan or team. Just by losing some team if the fan get offend it may cause trouble with the teams fan or team players as that happen in FIFA World Cup 2026 final match by which so many players get injured and it was terrible ending of that match.

In my opinion i would reccomend that International sports events should be occur because it also helps in lot other things like donating poor people, connecting with diffrent countires and more which helps us to know more about that sports and events.

I would conclude that bringing players or team from varioius countires is helpfull as sports generate good amount of revenue which helps people in good way and connect with diffrent countries together and also we should create a set of rule or line for fans to be in that limit to not to create a rivalry among the countries.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views and give a clear overall preference for international sports events, particularly in the final two paragraphs. The discussion of connection is supported with the example of athletes meeting at the Olympics, while the opposing view is linked to fan hostility and conflict. However, the ideas are only partly developed: the claim that events help with “donating poor people” is not explained, and the example of the 2026 World Cup final is difficult to assess because no details or context are provided. Your position also shifts slightly from saying both views are correct to recommending the events without clearly weighing the benefits against the risks. Explain each example and make your judgement consistent throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the benefits and drawbacks, and a conclusion. This helps the reader follow the main line of discussion. Some links between ideas are clear, such as “But also” introducing the opposing view. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes loose: the second paragraph moves from skills and competition to international connection and culture without clearly showing how each point follows. References such as “that game,” “that particular fan,” and “that match” are not always precise, and repeated use of “which” makes some sentences difficult to track. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example directly to the point it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “teamwork,” “leadership,” “rivalry,” “participants,” and “revenue,” which helps communicate the subject. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, especially “connect with” and “countries.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “competiton,” “diffrent,” “varoius,” and “reccomend,” as well as inaccurate or unnatural combinations like “viewer audiance” and “donating poor people.” These choices sometimes make the intended meaning less clear. Build a more precise set of expressions for international cooperation and sporting conflict, and check spelling and collocations carefully. For example, describe fans as “supporters” and say that an event “raises funds for people in need.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including clauses beginning with “which” and “as,” but control is inconsistent. Agreement and verb forms are problematic in examples such as “international sports events is good” and “it create competiton”; these should use plural agreement or a singular subject consistently. Some sentences are incomplete or awkwardly joined, including “Which is why we need more participants…” and “Sports is a game challenge which required…”. Articles and sentence boundaries also need attention, as in “is good way” and the long sentence beginning “Just by losing some team…”. These errors can make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise building accurate short sentences first, then combine them using controlled subordinate clauses.
