Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people state that worldwide fitness events, such as the Olympics or the Football World Cup, are a better reach to bring countries together because it lets people spend more time with other players . Whereas, others believe that such kinds of events create competition but not friendship among countries. Although some people believe that this create competition, I believe this is a better way to bring countries together.
To begin with, some people believe that playing international sports events, such as The Olympics, The Football or The Cricket, are a good way to build strong relationships among countries. This is because playing such events let players meet each other nicely. Players spend more time while practicing or sometimes while having dinner. Additionally, players get to know more about other players in terms of their languages, cultures and families. Therefore, knowing much may improve their friendship bonds and a healthy sport improves an overall relationship between countries. As a result, players from different countries try to make new friends and share gifts with them.
On the other hand, others argue that such kinds of events are responsible to create just competition, not friendship among countries. One of the major reasons why this creates competition is that every team tries to defend the opponent team no matter what. This competition brings ego between players and sometimes leads to a fight. Therefore, playing international sports may not help countries to make better relationships with others. Moreover, it ruins their current relationship because of the rivalry. For example, there is always a rivalry between India and Pakistan, when the teams step into the ground, it results into ego clash and verbal arguments. As a result, the overall relationship between both teams is not healthy.
To conclude, although some teams have a rivalry between them do not have a healthy relationship, I believe apart from few teams there has always been a nice bonding between teams while playing sports events.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of cultural exchange versus the potential for nationalistic rivalry. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat simplistic. For instance, the argument regarding 'ego' and 'verbal arguments' is a good point, but it could be extended with more sophisticated analysis or specific examples beyond the brief mention of India and Pakistan. The position is consistent throughout, but the depth of the discussion remains at a fairly basic level, which limits the score to a 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'Therefore' are used to guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive. For example, the transition between sentences within paragraphs can feel a bit disjointed, and some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the phrase 'knowing much' in the second paragraph. Overall, the progression of ideas is coherent, but the management of cohesion lacks the flexibility required for a higher band.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'worldwide fitness events' instead of 'international sporting events' and 'better reach' instead of 'effective way'. The student relies on basic vocabulary and struggles with collocations, such as 'playing international sports events' (one participates in or competes in events, rather than 'playing' them). While the meaning is generally clear, the range is limited, and there is little evidence of less common or idiomatic language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('this create competition'), incorrect article usage ('The Football', 'The Cricket'), and awkward phrasing ('the overall relationship between both teams is not healthy'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. The control over complex structures is inconsistent, and the punctuation is generally functional but basic. To improve, the student should focus on sentence variety and proofreading for basic agreement and article errors.
