Student answer (Band 6.0)
Sports play an indispensable role in people's overall well-being. While some people argue that international tournaments such as The Olympics and the Football World Cup, are an effective means of bringing nations together, others believe that these events can result in competitions between countries rather than globalization. This essay will discuss both views before explaining why I believe organizing sports events internationally can help bring people together in diverse ways.
On the one hand, one of the primary reasons why international sports events can be a better way to bring countries together is that they provide people with trade opportunities globally. When sports events are organized at an international level, spectators may have to visit other countries. This enables them to gain business ideas and explore different cultures and languages. Consequently, people from different countries are more likely to develop brotherhood among each other, which can contribute to a substantial rise in global collaboration.
On the other hand, opponents of international sports events believe that these events can create competitions instead of strengthening relationships. Many sports rely highly on winning, which can lead players to develop competitive behavior. As a result, these global sports tournaments can end up competitions and sometimes lead to misunderstanding and disagreements. For example, Cricket World Cup generally organize in different countries often places considerable pressure on India and Pakistan instead of strengthening their friendship.
In conclusion, while global sports events should be regarded as an effective way of brining countries together, I believe they can rarely create competition. In my opinion, their benefits significantly outweigh its drawbacks, thus, they can definitely help strengthen globalization.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'trade opportunities' is a bit tenuous and not fully connected to the core theme of international sports. The example of India and Pakistan is relevant, but the explanation of why these events cause 'misunderstanding' could be more deeply explored. The conclusion is slightly contradictory, as you state that events can 'rarely create competition' while the prompt asks you to discuss the view that they do. Overall, the ideas are relevant but require more depth to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the link between 'spectators visiting' and 'developing brotherhood' is a bit abrupt. The use of referencing is generally clear, though the final sentence of the conclusion uses 'its' to refer to 'benefits,' which is grammatically inconsistent with the plural noun.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'indispensable,' 'globalization,' and 'collaboration.' There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'rarely create competition' in the conclusion, which seems to contradict your earlier point. Additionally, 'generally organize in' should be 'is generally organized in.' While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, the precision is occasionally lacking. To improve, focus on more natural collocations and ensuring that your word choices accurately reflect your intended meaning throughout the essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist. For example, 'can end up competitions' is missing a preposition (e.g., 'end up as competitions'), and 'brining' is a spelling error. The phrase 'their benefits significantly outweigh its drawbacks' contains a pronoun-antecedent disagreement. Despite these errors, the meaning is generally clear, and the grammar does not impede communication. To reach a higher band, focus on proofreading for small errors in verb forms and subject-verb agreement.
