Student answer (Band 4.5)

Nowadays, working from home instead of travelling to workplace is a common trend among individuals. This tends to happen because a lot of people find it more comfortable and relaxing than working on field. Although it might have its advantages, I think that is is strongly a negative development.

Working from home has provided people some extra benefits to keep up their work/life balance. Travel times equivalent to zero has resulted in less time wastage in daily routine. People are utilising it to enjoy their lives and spending quality time with loved ones. Furthermore, businesses are generating more revenues by saving up on labour costs. For instance, many american companies have hired workers overseas for their IT department. This has aided them to achieve the goals but in less cost beacuse of low wages.

While this trend has various positive outcomes, its destructive results outweigh them. Individuals, especially youngsters are becoming lazy. Complete reliance on computers and artificial intelligence is negatively contributing towards brain development. Less body movement and continuous working hours on screen has impacted health adversely. In addition, workers are becoming less productive due to lack in supervision online. People are now priortising their personal life and are neglecting their job duties.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0

The response is completely off-topic. The prompt asks for a discussion on international sports events, yet the essay discusses the trend of working from home. Furthermore, the response is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, and the conclusion is incomplete. Because the essay fails to address the task prompt entirely, it cannot be awarded a passing score for Task Achievement. The ideas presented are irrelevant to the specific question asked, resulting in a failure to develop a position on the actual topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, and there is some attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'For instance', and 'In addition'. However, the logical progression is undermined by the fact that the content does not relate to the prompt. The conclusion is left unfinished, which disrupts the overall structure. While the paragraphing is present, the lack of a coherent argument regarding the actual task topic makes the flow ineffective.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is adequate for basic communication but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'working on field' instead of 'working in an office' and 'in less cost' instead of 'at a lower cost'. The range is limited, and the student relies on fairly simple, repetitive phrasing. While the meaning is generally clear, there is little evidence of less common lexical items or sophisticated control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include 'is is' (repetition), 'provided people some extra benefits' (missing preposition), 'American' (capitalisation error), and 'beacuse' (spelling error). While these errors do not always impede communication, they are frequent enough to demonstrate a lack of control over complex structures. The grammatical accuracy is inconsistent throughout the text.
