Student answer (Band 6.0)

Physical games play a crucial role in order to represent a nation. It is argued by some people that worldwide sports events like The Olympics or the Football World Cup are the best way in order to make two nations closer. Whereas others opine that competition is being created between two countries instead of friendship. Both the views will be discussed in the upcoming paragraphs along with my opinion.

To commence with, some people believe that to bring two countries together international sports like the Football World Club and The Olympics is the best way. The first and foremost reason is that the craze of sports among public. To elaborate it, people nowadays are health-conscious, in order to stay fit they are moving towards the sports. They spend a majority of time not only in playing sports but also in watching physical activity games. When the international sports will be held people of different nations will come to watch the sports and to motivate the player whom they like the most. For example, Ronaldo is the well-known football player and he represent Portugal. People from whole world cheers him on the day of match because of his gameplay. Hence sports can bring two countries together.

On the other hand, events can create competition due to the reason of jealousy. If the player of opposite team is doing good in any particular sport like football, Olympics and so on they started getting jealous due to the fact that the player of their own nation is not doing that good in sports. Apart from that, it can cause conflicts between two nations. As a result, people started getting involved between the conflict in the Stadium or during event. This can spread hate among both the countries.

To conclude, both the point of views has their own merits but i am in the favour of second point of view due to the fact that sports cause hate among two nations if the player of other team is playing good as compared to the player of their own nation.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The arguments regarding 'jealousy' and 'conflicts' in the second body paragraph are a bit simplistic and lack depth. While the position is clear, the supporting examples, such as the mention of Ronaldo, are somewhat superficial and do not fully explore the complexities of how international sports influence global relations. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more nuanced reasoning and more sophisticated examples to support your arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'To commence with', 'On the other hand', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as in the final paragraph where 'the second point of view' is used to refer back to the idea of competition. The flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer to their antecedents.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on some repetitive phrasing, such as 'bring two countries together' and 'doing good'. There are also some minor collocation errors, such as 'physical activity games' and 'the craze of sports among public'. While the meaning is always clear, the vocabulary is somewhat basic. To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific collocations and less common lexical items to express your ideas with greater sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'both the point of views has' (subject-verb agreement), 'people started getting involved between the conflict' (preposition error), and 'he represent Portugal' (verb tense). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some awkward phrasings that slightly impede the flow. To achieve a higher score, you need to demonstrate more consistent control over complex structures and reduce the frequency of basic grammatical errors.
