Student answer (Band 6.5)
International sporting events, such as the Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup, attract millions of people from diffrent countries. While some people believe that these occasions promote unity and strenghen relationships between nations, other argue that they can increase hostility. This essay will elucidate the both views and their overall imoact is positive because they encourage culture exchange and bring people together.
To commence with, international sporting events can be effective way of fostering friendship between countries. To expand, athletes from diverse culture and social background live and compete together, which give them an opportunity to understand one another and develop mutual respect. In addition, supporters from different nations gather in the host country and interact with local people as well as other visitors. To cite an illustration, during the Olympic Games, athletes from countries with very different policital systems often participate in the same events and demonstrate respect for one another. Thus, the more participants invloves in events from different countries, they become more strenghen relationship.
To filp side, it is undeniable that these events involves intense competition, which may sometimes create tension between nations. When national teams compete for prestigious titles, passionate, and disagreements between fans may occasionally lead to hostility. For example, foortball matches between traditional rivals can generate strong emotions among supporters, and this may temporarily increase animosity rather than friendship.
Nevertheless, I believe that the postive effects of international sporting events outweight their disadvantages. Competition is an essential part of sport, but it does not necessarily prevent countries from developing friendly relationships. In fact, after the competition ends, athletes often congratulate their opponents and celebrate together.
To recapitulate, although international sporting events can generate rivalry and occasionally cause tension, I believe that they are predominantly a force for international cooperation. By encouraging cultural exchange, mutual respect and shared experience.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The essay addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The position is consistent throughout the response. Ideas are relevant and supported with examples, such as the mention of athletes from different political systems and the rivalry in football matches. However, some arguments could be more thoroughly developed; for instance, the explanation of how cultural exchange specifically fosters friendship could be expanded further. Overall, the response is well-structured and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is generally smooth. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'In addition', and 'Nevertheless' are used to link ideas. However, there are some minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the slightly awkward phrasing in 'the more participants invloves in events from different countries, they become more strenghen relationship'. Despite these minor mechanical issues, the overall structure is coherent and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, with some attempts at more sophisticated language like 'elucidate', 'fostering', and 'animosity'. However, there are several spelling errors ('diffrent', 'strenghen', 'imoact', 'invloves', 'foortball', 'postive') and occasional word choice inaccuracies, such as 'To filp side' instead of 'On the flip side'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a wider range of precise collocations to reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is a good attempt at using complex sentences, although some contain grammatical errors, such as 'the more participants invloves... they become more strenghen relationship'. Subject-verb agreement errors are present ('these events involves', 'athletes... give them'), and there are some punctuation issues. While the errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding the intended meaning. To improve, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and refining the construction of complex comparative structures.
