Student answer (Band 6.5)

In order to maintain harmony between countries, some people belive that encouraging international sport competition can help establish good relations among them. While, others counter argue that it would disturb relations and increase fierce competitions between nations. Before my inclination, both views should be discussed.

There are several reasons why sports events can promote healthy relations among countries. The foremost one is that these kind of event planning may generate enormous amount of revenue to many countries. To explain, olympics and other international tournaments are associated with large paid audience. The benefit of this directly goes to the countries taking part into it. Hence, by considering economic loss, they are likely to strengthen relations. Furthermore, spoiled relations can be solved by sporting events. In other words, many countries which halted talks because of certain teritorial issues would come closer and sort out misunderstanding between them just by gathering to join important global events like olympic. It is also considered a joint global adventure and hardly any cnation can boycott just because of the problem with neighbhouring nation.

However, proponents argue that sporting events can increase tension between nation or create new rivals. To begin with, sport addicted people may start discriminating people of their tough competitiors in a playground. It is to sat that while promoting their nation, people forget to respect other sides of supporters. This would create a huge gap between nationalities due to one team has been beaten by another. Therefore, it is clear that sports can create friction among people of different continents. Moreover, disappointed sport addicted people choose violence against other people in na stadium is the good example that such rivalries bring negative outcomes.

In conclusion, both sides have their own plausible reasons to support their viewpoint. But in my opinion, sport tournaments and olympics give a chance to nations to negotiate their issues with other countries and also foster economic advantages that prevent further damage to their relations.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. The ideas are relevant, such as the economic impact and the potential for diplomatic resolution. However, some arguments are under-developed; for instance, the link between economic revenue and the strengthening of international relations is asserted rather than logically explained. The point about 'joint global adventure' is also somewhat vague. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific examples or deeper analysis of how these events translate into actual diplomatic progress, rather than just stating that they do.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into four paragraphs, with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used throughout, such as 'The foremost one', 'Furthermore', and 'However'. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'Before my inclination' in the introduction, which is not a standard academic phrase. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'The benefit of this directly goes to the countries taking part into it', where the antecedent for 'this' is slightly ambiguous. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing viewpoints.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'territorial issues', 'boycott', and 'plausible'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors that hinder the flow, such as 'counter argue' (should be 'counter-argue' or 'argue the opposite'), 'sport addicted people' (should be 'sports fans' or 'enthusiasts'), and 'tough competitors in a playground' (should be 'on the field' or 'in the arena'). Spelling errors like 'belive', 'cnation', and 'neighbhouring' also occur. To improve, focus on more natural collocations and proofreading for common spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the olympics', 'in a stadium'), subject-verb agreement ('many countries... would come closer'), and preposition usage ('taking part into it'). Some sentences are slightly ungrammatical, such as 'It is to sat that while promoting their nation', which obscures the intended meaning. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing your control over basic sentence construction and article usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
