Student answer (Band 6.0)

International sports events such as Football World Cup or The Olympics develop good relation between countries along with economical and political benefits. Well some people think that this creates rivalry betweem them due to heavy competition. I agree with the statement that International sports events are the best platform to bring them together.

On the one hand international sports such as The olympics or The Football World Cup bring a mutual respect and cultural benefits within the countries. Supporters from all over the world travels to the country who is hosting these events, to stand by their countries team. It also helps in economic condition of the countries. People from different culture meet and becomes friends. This brings a positive atmosphere and creates good relations between team. For example The Olympics Events shows great bond between the players who perform for their nation.

On the other hand many people thinks that sometimes it create rivalry due to compitetive nature. Yes competition is must in sports but sometimes it creates argument or misbehave between the supporters. Every supporter wants his country to win . Sometimes there are governmental and media pressures for the teams to win which further results in competition that turns to rivalry. For example during Football World Cup Tournaments supporters gets into fight while cheering their country and demeaning the efforts of other country's team . This leads to chaos and ruin the atmosphere and fun. It simply destroy the purpose of positive relations between countries.

At the end according to my opinion International Sports are the good way to bring countries and this creates strong relations and cultural exchange between them. Rivalry during compitetion is for timebeing which are temporary . They are not that serious issues that can stops these events. These events bring pride and harmony to the nation.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task, discussing both the unifying potential of international sports and the counter-argument regarding rivalry, while also providing a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. The ideas are generally relevant, mentioning economic benefits, cultural exchange, and fan behavior, but some points remain slightly under-developed. For instance, the economic impact is stated briefly without much elaboration, and the examples provided lack specific detail (e.g. mentioning 'The Olympics Events' generally rather than a specific event). However, the position is maintained throughout and the main arguments are sufficiently explored to satisfy the requirements for Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure, using standard transition markers such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'At the end'. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the opening sentence where 'them' refers back to countries, but the phrasing is slightly loose. Paragraphing is present and separates the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion adequately, though the logical progression within paragraphs could be smoother. There is also some repetitive sentence structuring that affects the flow. These features place the response firmly in Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'mutual respect', 'cultural exchange', 'demaning the efforts', and 'harmony'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'relation' instead of 'relations', 'economical' instead of 'economic', 'betweem', 'compitetive', 'compitetion', 'timebeing', and 'misbehave' used as a noun. While these errors do not seriously impede communication, they restrict the lexical score to Band 6.0, as the control over less common lexical items is inconsistent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in verb forms, plurals, and subject-verb agreement. Examples include 'international sports such as The olympics or The Football World Cup bring' (lack of plural noun consistency), 'travels' instead of 'travel', 'becomes' instead of become, 'many people thinks' instead of think, 'supporter gets' instead of supporters get, and 'which are temporary' referring to singular rivalry. Punctuation errors are also present, such as missing commas after introductory phrases. Because errors occur frequently but rarely impede overall understanding, a score of 5.5 is appropriate.
