Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often a debate that hosting international sports events such as The Olympics or the Football World Cup, creates tension between the two nations, while others believe that it brings two countries close and builds a connection among nations.
To begin with, international sports events can bring people close together by allowing them to meet new people from different nations and learn about their culture and traditions. Also, during the sporting event all the people including athletes respect the opposite country national anthem during the match, which shows a certain kind of courtesy among the nations. For, instance athletes from different nations during The Olympics live and train in the same environment, which allows them to develop a friendship despite of thinking them as a competition.
On the other hand, there is no doubt that hosting the international sports event , it not only creates a competition among the nations but also brings conflicts with them. Some, supporters during the match becomes so excited or emotionally overwhelmed, they sometimes loose their temper and begins to create a scene during the match, which leads to develop a negative connection among the nations. To clarify, during the football match, fans usually become extremely passionate about their national teams and may develop negative attitudes towards opposing supporters.
In conclusion, I believe that creating competition among the nation during a sporting event is a good idea, as it create a healthy environment during the match, but it should not overwhelmed by the emotions to win as it could create a conflict among the nations.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that international sports events bring countries together and that they create competition and tension—while also stating the writer's own opinion in the conclusion. The ideas are generally relevant, noting aspects such as cultural exchange, respect for national anthems, and fan behavior. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and generalized. For instance, the point about fans losing their temper is not supported by a specific, concrete example. Furthermore, the position in the conclusion slightly shifts by endorsing competition as a good idea rather than clearly weighing the two main viewpoints established in the prompt. This places the response comfortably at Band 6.0 in terms of task coverage and idea development.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the essay into an introduction, two body paragraphs representing opposing views, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used logically to separate the different arguments. Cohesive devices are employed to link ideas, such as "To begin with", "Also", "On the other hand", and "In conclusion". However, some referencing and transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, and sentences within paragraphs can occasionally feel disconnected. For example, the transition between discussing athletes in the second paragraph and transitioning to fan behavior in the third paragraph lacks a smooth bridging sentence. Overall, the organizational structure is clear enough to earn a Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating topic-specific phrases like "international sports events", "national anthem", "cultural and traditions", and "opposing supporters". There are several attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as "emotionally overwhelmed" and "passionate". However, noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations occur throughout the text, such as writing "brings two countries close" instead of "brings two countries closer", "opposite country national anthem" instead of "opposing country's national anthem", and "despite of thinking them as a competition". Spelling errors are also present, notably "loose" instead of "lose". These inaccuracies do not seriously impede communication, placing the response at a Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional-like structures, such as "Some supporters during the match become so excited... they sometimes loose their temper and begins to create a scene". There is good control over basic sentence patterns, but frequent grammatical errors occur, particularly with subject-verb agreement ("fans... begins"), missing articles ("hosting the international sports event"), and prepositional phrasing ("despite of"). Punctuation errors, such as unnecessary commas before clauses ("hosting the international sports event, it not only creates..."), are also noticeable. While these errors do not impede overall meaning, the frequency of non-systematic errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band, making a Band 6.0 appropriate.
