Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—that sports events bring countries together and that they create competition—and includes a clear personal opinion that they foster unity. The main ideas are presented, such as players gaining international popularity and fans supporting foreign athletes, but they tend to be somewhat under-developed and lack extended examples or deep analysis. For instance, mentioning Virat Kohli is relevant, but the explanation remains brief and conversational. The position is maintained throughout the essay. Because all parts of the prompt are addressed with relevant ideas, this performance aligns well with the requirements for Band 6.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into distinct paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing a clear overall arrangement. However, the progression is sometimes hindered by awkward transitions and mechanical cohesive devices, such as 'To commence with' and 'In conclusion, i believe that'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in pronoun ambiguity like 'this kind of events make them opponents'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the arguments, but paragraph transitions and internal cohesion require more flexibility and precision. These features place the response firmly in the Band 5.5 to 6.0 range, comfortably fulfilling Band 6 criteria for coherence and organisation.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'phenomenon', 'popularity', and 'undeniable'. However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, including phrases like 'make nations together', 'some people thoughts', and 'saw frustrate on country'. Spelling and word-form errors are present, such as 'forth coming' instead of forthcoming, and 'vries' instead of various. Despite these slips, the vocabulary used is sufficient to communicate the main points without causing major strain for the reader, which is characteristic of a Band 5.5 to 6.0 lexical level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional or concessive clauses with 'Although'. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage, including 'our players also gets', 'they knows', and 'it is best step'. Punctuation issues are also evident, such as unnecessary spaces before commas and missing capitalization. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the writing from reaching a higher band. Control over basic structures is generally sound, but complex structures often contain flaws, placing this criterion at Band 5.5.
