Student answer (Band 6.0)

It has been suggested that in this contemporary epoch, many people believe that sports organizations such as FIFA and NBA, encourages countries to strenghthen their relationship on global platform Whereas, others oppose and think sport occassions creates insecurity and jealousy factor amongst participating countries. In my opinion, I concur with the former statement, and genuinely believe, sports enable countries to build a positive relationship which can benefit them economically.

To begin with, fans are always present to support their country's team. They wear clothes representing their culture which can be shown as a symbol on a big platform as a result, it will create awareness and will eventually help in building friendship with other countries. Additionally, players competing with each other often end up being friends because every other individual have a special skill which attract others to learn it from him/her.

However, Olympics and FIFA often creates a banter between few countries. Fans are emotional and they do not want their team to loose and this emotion often make them feel anxious about others. To exemplify, last year in FIFA worlcup final Argentina was playing against Spain, unfortunately Argentina lost and all the Messi fans got aggresive in the field and they tried to fight with fans of Spain team.

In my opinion, sports events create an environment in which people from all across the world are sitting next to each other, wearing different jerseys representing their National team and hoots for their country to win. They get so connected with the game and some of them are also seen crying. These similar emotions help them to bond and these relations eventually turns into friendship. Moreover, some games become popular and they are played in few regions of the country every after 4 years, which attracts tourism and boost overall cognitive development.

To conclude, the advantages of sport events outweigh disadvantage. Insecurity and Jealously can take place easily because fans are enthusiastic but it can be cured and the overall game will benefit not only the player but also the Nation to build stronger relationship with other countries.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—that international sports bring countries together and that they create competition and insecurity—while also clearly stating the writer's own opinion in the introduction and conclusion. Ideas are extended and supported, such as when discussing cultural awareness and fan behavior, although the example given contains a factual error (Argentina playing Spain in a World Cup final). Nevertheless, the main arguments are relevant and well-developed throughout the essay, fulfilling the core requirements of a Band 6.5 to 7.0 performance for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, the two body paragraphs discussing opposing views, the writer's perspective, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed to guide the reader, such as 'To begin with', 'However', and 'To conclude'. However, some referencing is slightly faulty or mechanical, and sentence-to-sentence transitions could be smoother in places, placing this performance solidly within the Band 6 category.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'contemporary epoch', 'awareness', and 'enthusiastic'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'encourages' instead of 'encourage', 'strenghthen', 'occassions', 'loose' instead of 'lose', and 'aggresive'. These inaccuracies do not seriously impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score to a Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ambition with structures like relative clauses and conditional-like phrasing. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'every other individual have', 'sport occassions creates'), punctuation errors, and awkward phrasing ('every after 4 years'). While communication is maintained and meaning remains clear, the density of errors prevents the grammar score from reaching Band 6.5.
