Student answer (Band 5.5)
An increasing number of individuals thought that global sports tournaments, for instance basketball, hockey, soccer are build good relationship with different countries. On the other hand, some people think that these kind of games is only for rivalry between two team. I firmly agree that sports events bring countries together in a good way.
To begin with, I personally believe that any kind of events are play a significant role to maintain a good relationship between two countries. When international players are playing together so they can understand opposite culture norms and values. An other key point is, it will improve individuals communication skills, and they can expand their knowledge. for example, I have few friends who are from india and I am from pakistan our culture is absolutely different but, whenever we play together in a team we enjoy a lot, we never discuss negative things about our countries we respect each other a lot.
Furthermore, supporters are often highly came to the ground to just support their teams, they might think that it just a competition between two teams and we are here to support our team. In addition, some time supporters after match if they loose they take so serious and even they start fighting with each other. Moreover, atheletes are targeting each other religion, which is extreamily bad if you are athelete you are not supposed to say anything negative about anyone's religion.
In conclusion, I totally agree that international events create a better way to resolve the problem between different countries, and build strong relationship through players.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views (bringing countries together versus creating rivalry) and presents a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and uneven. For instance, the first body paragraph attempts to explain how players understand cultural norms, but the supporting example shifts abruptly into a personal anecdote about friends from India and Pakistan ('for example, I have few friends who are from india...'). Similarly, the counter-argument regarding supporters and athletes is introduced but remains under-developed. While the main aspects of the prompt are covered, the reasoning and examples lack depth and extension. Therefore, this performance fits the Band 6 descriptor well, as it addresses all parts with relevant ideas that are somewhat under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance and distinct paragraphing. Logical connectors such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used to signal the progression of ideas. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. For instance, referencing within sentences is occasionally unclear, such as 'When international players are playing together so they can understand opposite culture norms', where conjunctions are misused. Paragraphing is present and separates the introduction, body arguments, and conclusion, but transitions between sentences within paragraphs lack smoothness. On balance, the organisational structure is logical enough to ensure the message comes across, aligning closely with Band 6 criteria for coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, incorporating general terms such as 'international sports tournaments', 'rivalry', and 'communication skills'. However, there are notable limitations and word-choice errors throughout the text, such as 'thought' instead of 'think', 'are build' instead of 'help build', 'opposite culture norms' instead of 'each other's cultural norms', and 'extreamily bad'. Less common lexical items are attempted but often misapplied or misspelled (e.g., 'atheletes', 'loose' instead of 'lose'). These errors do not seriously impede overall communication, but they restrict the lexical score to a Band 5.0 or 5.5. Given the frequency of basic word-form and collocation slips, a score of 5.0 accurately reflects the limited yet minimally adequate range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as conditional and subordinate clauses (e.g., 'whenever we play together in a team we enjoy a lot'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak. There are frequent errors in verb tense, voice, and agreement, including 'An increasing number of individuals thought that', 'these kind of games is', 'are play a significant role', and 'supporters are often highly came to the ground'. Punctuation is also problematic, marked by run-on sentences and comma splices (e.g., '...different cultures but, whenever we play...'). Because errors are frequent across both simple and complex structures and occasionally cause minor difficulty for the reader, the writing falls into the Band 5 category for grammar.
