Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people believe that international sports events are a good way to improve the friendship between countries. Whereas others believe that these kind of events create competition instead of friendship. This essay will explain both the views in the upcoming paragraphs.
Many people think that international sports events such as The Olympics or the Football World Cup can bring friendhip between countries which is very thoughtful thinking. As we all know that every country in this world love sports. People love good players and these days on social media people do not just support their own player they also love other countries players which create a sense of belonging between people. For example Christiano Ronaldo is a portuguese player but all over the world people love him that shows that sports event can bring frienships between people and countries not just hatred.
On the other hand people say the opposite thing that these events can not bring friendship they only bring competition. To some extent it is possible that events can create competetion but having competetion between countries is a very good thing. They play with each other and the winners get rewards for their performance. For example India nad Pakistan always are against each other in sports events that create a lot of hate in people towards the players of other countries and even on social media they use abusive language about each other. So to some extent this can create a competition.
But I believe both views are right to some extent but i personally support the first perception that these events bring frienship between people and country not just hatred.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that international sports events foster friendship and that they create competition—and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. The ideas are generally relevant, though some arguments are slightly repetitive or under-developed. For instance, the point about global support for Cristiano Ronaldo attempts to illustrate how sports unite people, while the example of India and Pakistan illustrates the competitive and sometimes hostile aspect. While the reasoning could be extended with more depth and fewer sweeping generalisations, the writer maintains a consistent stance and covers all required prompt elements. This aligns well with the Band 6 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is coherent overall with a clear logical arrangement into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing viewpoints. However, cohesion within and between sentences is sometimes mechanical or faulty. For example, the sentence 'Whereas others believe that this kind of event...' uses a dependent clause fragment as a complete sentence. Additionally, transitional phrases are basic and repetitive ('On the other hand', 'For example', 'So to some extent'). Referencing is mostly clear, but the overall progression could be smoother. This performance fits the Band 6 criteria.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms such as 'international sports events', 'social media', 'belonging', and 'competition'. There are several spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'friendhip' instead of 'friendship', 'Christiano Ronaldo', 'portuguese', 'frienships', and 'competetion'. Despite these inaccuracies and occasional spelling mistakes, the lexical items used are sufficient to convey the meaning without impeding communication. The attempt to use less common vocabulary like 'perception' and 'thoughtful thinking' supports an overall Band 6 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional and relative clauses ('People love good players and these days on social media people do not just support...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation lapses throughout the text, including run-on sentences lacking appropriate punctuation ('As we all know that every country in this world love sports'), subject-verb agreement issues ('every country... love sports'), and capitalization errors ('portuguese', 'i personally'). While these errors are noticeable and require the reader to occasionally re-read, they rarely completely impede communication, placing the grammar firmly in the Band 5.5 to 6.0 range.
