IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people believe that international sports events, such as The Olympics or the Football World Cup, are a good way to bring countries together. Others say that these events create competition, not friendship, between countries.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
Intra-country sports event have formed an unprecidented bond within countires to come together in many ways, particularly for economical and security growth. While it truely demonstrates progress, only some believe from the lens of rivalry. In my opinion, the benefits outweighs.
From ages, events like commanwealth, Olympics, Asia cup games, countries from their nearby regions have wholeheartedly participated to showcase their niche skills in games like Tennis, Archery, and softball. Regardless of international boundries, such sports, and assocations have kept people together to cherrish their similar culture and identity through sports. Additionally, doors for trade, and military establishment for corss border safety opens up as countries become tuned with sports. The very quintessential is popularity of Football in European Union, given the fact of fostering a circular economy of culture and goods, outside of simply sports too.
With constructive establishments among two countries or many countries, often a group of pessemistic people experiences the agony, citing the whole phenomena nothing but hoax. Although, in some cases, due to sports, violence, and sheer hatered has came to the surface in the past, for example major vandalism in Paris when France lost 2022 Fifa worldup. However, paragraphing and referencing are somewhat disjointed, and the overall progression is hampered by the abrupt ending of the text. Cohesive devices are occasionally used awkwardly, reflecting a lack of flexible management across the whole essay.

The vocabulary used displays an adequate range for the task, with attempts at less common items such as 'unprecidented', 'quintessential', and 'pessimistic'. However, there are numerous spelling errors ('unprecidented', 'commanwealth', 'cherrish', 'corss', 'pessemistic', 'hatered', 'worldup') and awkward word choices ('economical and security growth', 'the benefits outweighs'). These lexical inaccuracies slightly impede communication and prevent the score from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional and subordinate clauses. However, grammatical accuracy is noticeably weak due to frequent errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Intra-country sports event have', 'benefits outweighs'), incorrect verb forms ('has came'), and incomplete sentence structures in the final paragraph.
