Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many people think that international sports events, such as The Olympics or Football World Cup, are a better way to bring countries together while others believe that these events create competition, not friendship, between the countries. In this essay, I will discuss the both views and I will also give my opinion.
To commence with, the international sports events enhance friendship between the countries because these games provide a platform to countries to enhance team spirit. It also increases communication among nations. In other words, different territories comes to one place to exchange good qualities life team spirit, leadership and many more. For example, in the Olympics, various countries sign policies to increase friendly activities among them. Therefore, sports events are a good way to increase the friendship in the countries.
On the other hand, these events also create competition between countries. This is because when a nation gets defeated in a particular match, they often develop a feeling a revenge towards the winner country. For instance, Pakistan and India participate in every sports events, whenever there is a India Pakistan match, they treat themselves like enemies. Hence, to some extent, these events also creates competitions but not friendship.
In my opinion, I believe that the benefits of these competitions are far greater than the drawbacks. Therefore, I believe that international sports events are very pivotal to increase friendship between the countries. Additionally, we cannot neglect the felling of revenge between some countries such as India and Pakistan.
In conclusion, international sports events are essential to increase team spirit and leadership between the countries. However, some countries often develop competition than friendship.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that international sports events bring countries together and that they create competition—and includes a clear personal opinion. The main ideas are supported with relevant examples, such as the mention of India and Pakistan. However, some arguments remain somewhat generalised and under-developed, particularly regarding how team spirit and leadership are exchanged. For instance, the statement 'various countries sign policies to increase friendly activities among them' is slightly vague. Overall, the prompt is covered adequately, earning a solid Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure including an introduction, body paragraphs addressing each view, a personal opinion paragraph, and a conclusion. Transitional markers such as 'To commence with', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in phrases like 'exchange good qualities life team spirit' and repetitive structures in the concluding sentences. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, but the progression between ideas could be smoother.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'pivotal', 'revenge', and 'team spirit'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'good qualities life team spirit' instead of 'qualities like', 'every sports events' instead of 'every sports event', and 'develop a feeling a revenge' instead of 'feeling of revenge'. Spelling and word formation errors are present, but they do not impede overall communication, placing this performance firmly in Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating clauses with 'because', 'when', and 'whenever'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including article misuses ('the both views', 'the Football World Cup', 'the friendship'), preposition errors ('in the countries' instead of 'between countries'), and agreement issues ('different territories comes'). While these errors do not severely impede communication, they occur regularly and prevent the essay from achieving a higher band score.
