Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is an ongoing debate about whether international events are beneficial for build stronger relationalship between countries or they create comptetion only. While some people think that a healthy relationship can be build between different parts of the world by organising events such like The Olympic or the Football Worldcup. Others argue that these events only create competition. As per my perspective, I am more inclined towards former view.

To begin with, Individuals who belive that competetion between nations helps to keep countries close give their reasons as below. Firstly, people from across the world have chance to meet and learn about hosting country's people and culture. This is because, individuals may visit the host country to support the players or teams who are participating in competition. For example, during 2026 fifa world cup, which was held in Canada visited by number of audiances from other parts of the world. As a result, many people have stayed at local hotels and communicate with the local people of Canada.

on contray, other side of people often argue that players and teams of the countries only participates to win the events. Because, players and teams might have practiced for long time and they are more focus on winning the competetion rather than developing friendship between them. consequently, there might be chances of getting hatered arguments not only between players but also between supportes. However, I believe with strong sportnmanship and being respectful with other oponents this can be avoided.

To conclude, although international events can creates competetion between players but it can also build strong relationship with strong sportmanships of players and teamwork.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on international sports events and providing a clear personal opinion. The writer suggests that sports promote cross-cultural understanding and strong relationships, despite the element of competition, which is supported by some explanation and a brief example regarding the FIFA World Cup. However, the development of ideas remains somewhat limited and superficial. For instance, the example provided about visitors staying in local hotels lacks thorough elaboration. The position is maintained throughout the essay, but the arguments would benefit from greater depth and more precise real-world examples to fully meet the higher band descriptors. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, fitting the criteria for Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing used to separate the introduction, two body paragraphs, and the conclusion. Logical progression is attempted using transitional markers such as To begin with, For example, on contray, and To conclude. However, some cohesive devices are used incorrectly or mechanically, such as starting a sentence with 'on contray,' and fragmenting sentence structures with inappropriate punctuation. Referencing and substitution are generally clear, though occasional awkward phrasing affects the smooth flow of ideas. Paragraphing is adequate, but the connections between sentences could be managed more flexibly to achieve a higher score. This places the response comfortably at Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'international events', 'sportmanship', and 'cross-cultural'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'relationalship' instead of relationships, 'comptetion' instead of competition, 'audiances' instead of audiences, and 'hatered' instead of hateful. While these errors are noticeable and detract from the precision of the writing, they do not severely impede overall communication. The writer demonstrates enough lexical control to convey the central arguments, aligning with the descriptors for Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ambition with subordinate clauses such as 'While some people think that...'. Nevertheless, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several frequent errors in verb forms, prepositions, and articles, such as 'events are beneficial for build stronger relationalship', 'events such like The Olympic', and 'audiences from other parts of the world... has stayed'. Sentence boundary errors also occur, such as beginning a new sentence abruptly with 'Others argue...'. Although these errors cause occasional difficulty for the reader, communication is still achieved, making Band 5.5 the most suitable score.
