Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, a lot of people are debating over whether games such as The Olympics or the Football World Cup is a perfect way to merge spectators from different countries together, or it promotes competition. This essay will discuss the how these games helps strengthen team bonding while sometimes can lead to harsh debate and rivarly. I firmly believe that it's a positive development and governments and corporate companies should promote it.

Firstly, the major benefit is team bonding. This means that colleagues, who works for the same company/bussiness can share their ideas and views independently. People get a chance to meet new colleague and learn from their experiences and culture. Such as, the recent Fifa Fooball World Cup event helped my friend to bond quicker with his new co-workers, as most of them were supporting the Spain team. Spectators binge watch the matches in local pubs and socialise with new people. Similary, The Olympics is big catalyst to bring people from various geography together, as these games have players from 150+ countries around the globe.

However, there are also significant drawbacks to host popular sports tournaments. Firstly, one of the primary disadvantages is the verbal arguments. These games are filled with suspense and stress to viewers. Which causes unwanted and unfruitful arguments between two sets of supporters. This moments can lead to violance. For instance, sports games between the India and Pakistan always lead to heated moments such as breaking windows and seats in the stadium.

To conclude, the primary advantage such having great understanding between colleagues is required to make bussiness succesful in corporate. However, it can often lead to harsh exchange of comments and arguments, which spreads stress and anxiety.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views (bringing countries together versus creating competition) and providing a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. Ideas are relevant, such as team bonding in the workplace and crowd behavior at international matches like FIFA or India-Pakistan games. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and occasionally shifts focus unexpectedly, such as diving into specific workplace examples that feel slightly disconnected from international sports. For instance, the transition from international events to office colleagues sharing ideas is a weak extension. While the position is clear and the main prompts are addressed, the overall depth of exploration aligns well with a Band 6.0 descriptor, where relevant ideas are presented but remain somewhat under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure, utilizing distinct introduction, body, and conclusion paragraphs. Cohesive devices are employed to signal transitions, such as 'Firstly,' 'However,' and 'To conclude.' However, referencing and logical progression are occasionally faulty. For example, the use of 'Which causes unwanted...' creates a sentence fragment error that disrupts the flow. Additionally, the progression within the second body paragraph feels slightly mechanical. While paragraphing is used appropriately, the referencing of ideas and the management of cohesion across sentences can be awkward at times, fitting the Band 6 descriptor where cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'merge spectators,' 'rivalry,' 'suspense,' and 'catalyst.' However, there are notable word choice errors and spelling inaccuracies throughout the text, including 'bussiness' instead of 'business,' 'Similary' instead of 'Similarly,' 'geography' instead of 'geographic regions,' 'host' instead of 'hosting,' and 'violance' instead of 'violence.' Despite these lexical errors, communication is rarely impeded, and the vocabulary used is sufficient to convey the main arguments. This performance is characteristic of Band 6, where the writer has an adequate vocabulary range but exhibits spelling and word-choice errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like conditional and subordinate clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation issues that lower the accuracy score. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('whether games... is a perfect way'), tense inconsistencies ('colleagues, who works'), sentence fragments ('Which causes unwanted and unfruitful arguments'), and awkward phrasing ('The primary advantage such having great understanding'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. The grammar control is consistent with Band 5.0 or 5.5, but leaning towards a 5.0 due to the accumulation of basic structural and agreement errors.
