Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people assert that technology has made it easier for students to learn, whereas others believe that it has made students too dependent on computers and the internet. In my opinion, it has made learning process easier because it has granted easier access to various reading materials. This essay will dicuss both views and provide reasons for it.

One of the main benefits of technological advancements is that students have got easy access to various materials. Computers and the internet have made possible for students to search and find research articles from any parts of the world, without commuting to visit the libraries. Because the internet usage saves time of learners, they can spend more time to gain knowledge, rather than spending a significant time looking for the required information in the textbooks. Furthermore, various educational videos, tutorials, and online classes also enhance the practical and theoretical skills of students as they can study at their own pace.

On the other hand, the traditional way of study, such as using textbooks, libraries, and theoretical classes, help learners in building strong foundation. People would be required to study hard and get knowledge from various books, which are one of the most reliable sources. Individuals are so used to the computers and the internet that sometimes they may believe on false information, if they do not check the reliable source. There can be many people on social media, who might be sharing wrong information, and it might be believed younger students if they are not capable of checking the reliable sources.

In my view, computer and the internet can enrich student's knowledge if used in proper way, but it can also cause dependent on them because students tend to get information easily. From my own experience, it has helped me very much for understading the complex subject matters, and completing my assignments easily.

In conclusion, for education, technology, such as coumputer and the internet are beneficial if used in an appropriate way.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0

The candidate has written an essay responding to a completely different prompt than the one provided in the test instructions. The instructions ask for a discussion on whether international sports events bring countries together or create competition, whereas the student's response discusses whether technology makes learning easier or makes students too dependent. Because the prompt was completely misunderstood and an entirely different topic was addressed, the response is considered off-topic for the assigned question. According to the descriptors, addressing a completely different task severely limits task response, resulting in a low score for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

Despite being off-topic, the text itself exhibits a clear organizational structure. The essay is divided into logical paragraphs with a discernible introduction, body paragraphs addressing distinct points, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used to connect ideas, although referencing is sometimes repetitive. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, demonstrating that the writer understands how to structure an essay format even though the content fails to address the specific prompt provided.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student displays an adequate vocabulary range for general topics, utilizing terms like 'technological advancements', 'foundational', and 'appropriate way'. However, there are some noticeable vocabulary and spelling errors, such as 'dicuss' instead of 'discuss', 'coumputer' instead of 'computer', and awkward phrasing like 'cause dependent on them' instead of 'cause dependency on them'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited success, and word choice errors occasionally surface, placing this firmly within the Band 5 to 6 range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional and subordinate clauses ('Because the internet usage saves time...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing articles ('from any parts of the world', 'in proper way'), incorrect prepositions ('believe on false information'), and agreement issues. These errors occur regularly, yet they do not completely impede communication, as the reader can still understand the intended meaning of the sentences.
