Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to discuss both views regarding international sports events and provides a personal opinion, which aligns with the basic requirements of the task. However, the development of ideas is limited and at times superficial. For instance, the mention of athletes like 'renaldo' and 'Imran khan' is somewhat disconnected from the broader discussion of national unity versus competition. While the writer does touch upon cooperation between India and Pakistan in the context of the 2022 World Cup, the explanation remains brief and under-developed. The position is clear, but the support lacks depth and structure. According to the band descriptors, this performance falls into Band 5, as the ideas are limited and under-developed, and the response addresses the task only partially with some repetitive statements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay displays some overall organization with distinct paragraph breaks, but there is a lack of clear progression throughout. Many sentences are disjointed, and the use of cohesive devices is inadequate or faulty. For example, expressions like 'we will disucss below the pssage' and 'Analysing the statement of friendship' are awkward and disrupt the logical flow of ideas. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and mechanical transitional phrases are missing or misused. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal paragraph cohesion needs significant improvement. This level of organization and cohesive control reflects the Band 5 descriptors, where some organization is present, but clear overall progression is missing and cohesive devices are inaccurate.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses a limited and basic range of vocabulary, with noticeable errors in spelling, word choice, and form. Examples include 'criketer', 'compitators', 'exited' instead of excited, 'prasser' instead of pressure, 'bound' instead of bond, and 'regulatoy'. These errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted lexical repertoire. While the writer attempts some less common terms like 'stratagies' and 'competitian', persistent errors in spelling and collocation prevent the score from reaching a higher band. This corresponds closely to the Band 5 descriptor, where vocabulary is minimally adequate for the task, but noticeable errors occur frequently.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The grammatical structure of the essay is heavily reliant on simple sentences, and attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty or ungrammatical. There are numerous punctuation and capitalization errors, such as missing spaces after periods (e.g., 'countries. On', 'events.Evey'), incorrect verb forms ('is important of both players', 'not create competition'), and run-on sentences. Frequent errors in grammar and mechanics cause noticeable difficulty for the reader and impede fluent comprehension. According to the official descriptors, this performance aligns with Band 5, featuring a limited range of structures, frequent errors, and faulty attempts at complex sentences.
