Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people argue that, international games bring regions together while others argue that, these type of events increase the rivalry between countries. However, in my opinion I believe that international sports events like The Olympics, Football World Cup and Cricket World Cup bring people together as this allow people to connect with other people.
The world wide sports competitions allow people to connect as a group. This means that, people with same passion come together and support their favourite team or sportsman. Even though they are from various regions, they sit together in the ground and cheer for their favourite team along with other individuals. This creates harmony in between countries. As an example, in the Football World Cup, fans from different countries support for their idol sportman or team. Additionally, some countries organise friendship matches in between countries make peace. Therefore, the international sports events are a good way to bring countries together.
On the other hand, some people think that, these events create competition in between countries. This is because individuals who are addicted to sports events become more emotional over lost. Thus, they make agressive decisions. For instance, in the 2024 cricket world cup, fans of the runners up team fought with the rival team's fans. Hence, the international sports events create problems and misunderstandings between countries.
In conclusion, while some believe that sports event create rivalry in between countries I believe international games bring people and countries together because sports make people to sit together and support their idol sportsman.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on international sports events and providing a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. The writer argues both sides, noting how events like the Olympics bring people together through shared passions, while also acknowledging the potential for nationalist rivalry and conflict, as seen in the example from the 2024 cricket world cup. Ideas are generally well supported with relevant examples, such as fans supporting their favorite teams and friendship matches. However, some arguments could be extended further for greater depth, preventing the essay from reaching the highest bands. Overall, the task is fulfilled adequately, earning a solid band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay has a clear, recognizable overall structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs discussing opposing views, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. Cohesive devices are employed to link sentences and paragraphs, such as 'However', 'The world wide sports competitions', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and transitions are sometimes mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on 'This means that' and 'As an example'. Furthermore, minor punctuation issues around connectors slightly disrupt the flow. Progression is present, but logical transitions could be managed more flexibly to achieve a higher band.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and specific topics related to sports, such as 'rivalry', 'harmony', 'addicted', and 'agressive decisions'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'in the ground' instead of 'in the stadium', 'support for their idol sportman' where the preposition 'for' is unnecessary, and misspelling 'agressive' as 'agressive'. Despite these limitations, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning without impeding communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional-style reasoning. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation flaws, particularly with unnecessary commas separating subjects and verbs ('arguments... that, international games bring') and errors in prepositional usage and verb complementation, such as 'sports make people to sit together' instead of 'sports make people sit together' and 'emotional over lost' instead of 'emotional over losses'. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they occur regularly enough to restrict the score to a 5.5.
