Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on international sports events and providing a clear personal opinion. The writer considers both the bonding aspect, such as cultural exchange and becoming open-minded, and the competitive drawback, such as an overemphasis on winning leading to conflicts. However, the ideas are somewhat generalized and lack fully developed supporting details or concrete examples from real life. For instance, the discussion on cultural exchange remains somewhat superficial with phrases like "learn distinct things including language, history of other culture and dressing style." Despite this limited depth, the prompt's requirements are fully met, earning a Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure, including an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting opposing views, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. Cohesive devices are employed to signal transitions, such as "On the one hand," "On the other hand," and "To conclude." Nevertheless, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, phrases like "when people gossip with each others" and repetitive connectors weaken the flow. Additionally, the progression within paragraphs occasionally stumbles due to run-on sentences and minor organizational awkwardness, placing this performance at Band 5.5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as "multi lingual person," "open minded person," and "distinct nations." However, there are frequent errors in word choice, spelling, and collocation. Examples include "foriegn" instead of foreign, "improvr" instead of improve, and the incorrect phrasing "take choose wrong path." Words are also misused grammatically within collocations, such as "win from other team" instead of beat other teams. While communication is not heavily impeded, these recurring inaccuracies restrict the lexical score to a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting complex structures through conditional and subordinate clauses, such as "Although this games helps to improvr relation between nations, i believe that sometime it create competition." However, control over grammar is weak, featuring frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., "this games helps," "it create"), article usage, and capitalization (e.g., lowercase "i"). Furthermore, run-on sentences lacking appropriate punctuation are prevalent, as seen in "to explain, most of te team always make a plan how they can win from other team that is why some time they take choose wrong path." These persistent errors align with a Band 5.0 descriptor.
