Student answer (Band 5.0)

International sports events, such as The Olympics or the Football World Cup, are good way to connect people from different countries, while others believe that create competition and conflict. I agree with latter opinion because such events promote friendship and helps to understand each others culture.

Some people believe that it create competition and not friendship between them. Most of the people are being to personal regarding their sports. They hate and create conflict to other side of the team and their fans. They just want to defame them on social media or any other socials apps. For instance, people do hate comments on sports related posts on instagram. They fight on silly topics and use abusive words, just to prove or justify themself. By doing this they are friendly at all because some of them make video by saying negative things which are friendly at all.

I believe that such events promote friendship and culture. Many people are like sports too much that they love to commute other countries to see their sports person or support team. In this process, people from different race and religion came together to celebrate a common event. Not even in stage but on internet also many people join live session and support all together to their team. For example, In India Cricket is one of the great international event that combine many different countries to play each other and from all over the world fans love this concept.

In conclusion, some people think that sports divide the unity of fans but I disagree with this statement because international sports bring people together to enjoy such event as one.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The student addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on international sports events and presenting a personal opinion. However, there is a contradiction in the introduction and conclusion where the student states they agree with the latter opinion (that events create competition and conflict), yet the body paragraph and conclusion ultimately argue that these events promote friendship and unity. This creates confusion regarding the writer's true position. Ideas are presented, but their development is limited and sometimes repetitive, relying on broad generalisations about social media comments without deep elaboration. While the prompt is addressed, the logical inconsistency in the stance pulls the performance down to a Band 5.5 level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organised into four paragraphs with a clear introduction and conclusion. However, the logical progression is flawed due to the mixed stance in the introduction. Cohesive devices are used, but sometimes inaccurately or mechanically, such as 'Not even in stage but on internet also' and 'In this process'. Paragraphing is generally used to separate different ideas, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs suffers from abrupt transitions and referencing errors, such as using 'them' and 'they' ambiguously when referring to fans and teams. Overall arrangement shows some organisation, but the overall progression lacks strong continuity, fitting the Band 5.0 descriptors well.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with frequent reliance on everyday words like 'good', 'people', 'sports', and 'friends'. There are noticeable lexical errors and inappropriate collocations, such as 'good way to connect', 'being to personal', 'do hate comments', and 'Cricket is one of the great international event'. While the intended meaning is generally communicated, the lack of precision and limited range of vocabulary restrict the score. The writer attempts some less common phrases, but they often contain errors, placing this response firmly in the Band 5.0 range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures are frequently marred by grammatical errors. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('others say that create', 'it create competition', 'people from different race and religion came together'), missing articles ('are good way', 'on internet'), and incorrect preposition usage ('on stage' instead of 'on the stage'). Punctuation is basic. Although the errors are frequent, they rarely completely impede communication, which aligns well with the Band 5.0 descriptors for grammatical range and accuracy.
