Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both views required by the prompt regarding whether international sports events unite countries or foster competition, and a personal opinion is offered in the conclusion. However, the task is under-length, containing only 222 words compared to the required 250-word minimum, which negatively impacts the depth of development. While ideas are introduced, they are often brief and under-developed. For example, the argument regarding business and marketing benefits is mentioned cursorily without clear elaboration or strong supporting examples. The personal anecdote about an eminent personality named Mr. Rakul is somewhat tangential and poorly integrated, failing to strongly support the core arguments about international relations. Consequently, the response achieves a Band 5.0 for this criterion due to the incomplete length and limited development of ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates basic organisational structure with paragraphs intended to introduce, discuss both views, and conclude. However, progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and disjointed phrasing, such as 'adding to this, these match helps players'. Cohesive devices are often used inaccurately or mechanically, as seen with sentence fragments like 'And the only reason is because...' starting a new sentence inappropriately. Paragraphing is attempted, but paragraph boundaries and internal logical flow are weak, particularly within the body paragraphs where sentences feel disconnected. Reference words are occasionally unclear, making it difficult to follow the logical links between ideas. These issues collectively align with the characteristics of Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with noticeable errors in word choice, form, and collocation. Examples include 'Sports playa a paramount role', 'carer' instead of career, 'sport games', and 'her wife' instead of his wife. While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'paramount role', 'goal-oriented', and 'eminent personality', these attempts often feature inaccuracies that occasionally strain the reader's comprehension. Words are frequently misused, such as 'helps them to grow up their relations', which lowers the precision and effectiveness of the writing. The lexical range is minimally adequate for the task, fitting the Band 5.0 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('these events leads', 'events helps', 'team when played'), incorrect verb forms ('sport programmes helps', 'to leans'), and punctuation errors like sentence fragments ('And the only reason is because they are representing their countries.'). Furthermore, capitalization is frequently neglected at the beginning of sentences and for proper nouns ('however', 'olympics', 'india'). These frequent errors and the lack of error-free complex sentences place the response firmly at Band 5.0.
