Student answer (Band 5.5)

Many individuals think that internataional sports events like The Olympics or The Football World Cup, are a brilliant way to gather different countries. Some believe that these events create competition rather than making friendship among the countries. Competition arises but no one lose friendship, So I think that gathering from different countries is possible if we organise this type of events.

Firstly, international sports events, such as The Olympics or The Football World Cup can gather all the public from different countries. This type of events can be encouraged by the audience. Moreover, we will come to know about the different culture of the various countries.

For example, In Olympics, there are different players from many countries like India, Australia, America, and The United Kingdom etc., they meet and greet each other. They share their cultural talks, traditional foods etc.

Secondly, Competition among these players and audience is very high. Though they are friends, but when they step into the competitive platform, they have to forget everything and concentrate on the game. Players from different countries greet each other before the game starts. Some of them will have enematic behaviour but most of the players will satisfy by what they palyed. They often greet to the opposing group for their success.

For exapmple, In the Fifa World Cup, Poland vs Spain was playing and they were maintiaing good bonds between them. They think that, one or the other has to be a runner and one will be the winner. At the end, Spain won against Polanad, Poland congartulated Spain players for their achievement.

I conclude that, both the ideas are considerable, but in my point of view, friendship does not break if it comes to the competition among different countries. So, I would say that these events are very essential to gather different countries at one place.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on international sports events and providing a clear personal opinion. The student outlines the idea of bringing countries together through cultural exchange and shared experiences, while also acknowledging the competitive nature of such tournaments. However, some ideas are under-developed and lack depth. For instance, the discussion on competition mentions that players have 'enematic behaviour' (likely meaning antagonistic or intense) but this is not fully explored. The examples provided, such as the mention of Poland vs Spain in the FIFA World Cup, are relevant and support the arguments, though they are somewhat simplistic. Overall, the task is addressed clearly, corresponding to a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay has a coherent overall arrangement and follows a clear paragraph structure with a distinct introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. Transition phrases are basic, such as 'Firstly,' 'Moreover,' and 'Secondly,' and some cohesive links are awkward, like 'Competition arises but no one lose friendship, So I think...'. Referencing and logical progression within paragraphs could be smoother; for example, the transition between discussing the audience and players in the first body paragraph feels abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas, placing the response solidly at Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate their ideas, but it contains several spelling and word-choice errors that reflect a Band 5.0 level. There are noticeable misspellings such as 'internataional', 'enematic' (instead of inimical or intense), 'palyed', 'exapmple', 'maintiaing', 'Polanad', and 'congartulated'. Furthermore, some collocations are unnatural, such as 'gather different countries' or 'make friendship'. While the student attempts less common vocabulary, the frequency of lexical errors and spelling mistakes impedes smooth reading at times, capping this criterion at Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as 'Though they are friends, but when they step into the competitive platform...' (which also contains a redundancy with 'Though' and 'but'). There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'no one lose friendship' and 'this type of events can be encouraged'. Punctuation errors are also present, such as unnecessary commas before 'are a brilliant way'. While these errors do not completely obscure the meaning, they occur regularly throughout the response, placing the grammatical control at a Band 5.0 level.
