Student answer (Band 6.0)
In this contemporary era, there are contrasting views where one section of society believes that participating in sport matches plays a crucial role in bringing communities together across the globe, while the opposing view suggests such events can cause adverse effects on countries relationship by causing rivalry among nations. This essay will discuss both viewpoints in detail over subsequent paragraphs.
To commence with, majority of public are deeply interested in sport nowadays. They spent their time watching games and discuss the outcome with their fellows as well. To elaborate further, citizens tend to post about their favourite athletes on social media and even goes to the arena to watch them play. The craze for these event is unfathomable. Due to above reasons, people usually find themselves bonding over their favourite team with each other. Moreover, these kind of games are palyed internationally. Due to that, individuals travel to foreignand get familier with culture . This results in formation of lifelong friendships too.Hence, above mentioned reasons illustrates why sports can help in building platonic relationships across countries ultimately bringing nation closer.
On the contrary, as every game ends in one team win and other lost. It can stir emotions between players as well as their fans. To exemplify, France Vs. Morocco FIFA resulted in France victory because of that, Moroccan citizens burned and rioted on the streets of paris. These circumstances caused a conflict between both neighbouring nation.
To recapitulate, this essay clearly discussed that sportsmenship brings citizens ultimately together over shared love for the competitive games, while such events can also cause an issue between states too. From my perspective, sports events are essential not only for recognition of the nation but also for the revenue it brings. However, precaution should be taken to avoid any unfavourable events.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The student addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—that international sports events unite countries and that they cause competition and conflict—while also providing a personal opinion in the conclusion. The position is generally clear throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas in the body paragraphs is somewhat limited and lacks robust supporting examples. For instance, the mention of the France versus Morocco FIFA match is a relevant real-world example, but its explanation is brief and leaves the argument somewhat under-developed. Similarly, the points about cultural exchange and bonding are generalized. Consequently, the response sits comfortably within the Band 6 descriptor, as it addresses all parts of the task with relevant ideas, though some are under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into four paragraphs, featuring a clear introduction, two body paragraphs exploring opposing views, and a concluding summary. The progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, utilizing transition phrases such as 'To commence with', 'On the contrary', and 'To recapitulate'. However, there are noticeable cohesion and punctuation issues throughout the text. For example, spacing errors occur around punctuation marks (e.g., 'nowadays. They', 'even goes', 'foreignand'), and referencing is sometimes imprecise, such as ambiguous pronoun use in 'because of that, Moroccan citizens...'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct arguments, leading to an overall score of 6.0 for coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'contemporary era', 'unfathomable', and 'sportsmenship'. However, there are frequent word choice, spelling, and collocation inaccuracies that lower the lexical score. Examples include 'sport matches' instead of 'sports matches', 'majority of public' missing a determiner, 'foreignand' (run-on word), 'familer' (spelling error), 'one team win and other lost' (grammatical form error for vocabulary), and 'neighbouring nation' when France and Morocco are not immediate neighbors. These errors do not impede overall communication, placing the response firmly at Band 5.5 to 6.0, reflecting an adequate range with some inaccuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as introductory subordinate clauses ('In this contemporary era, there are...'). However, grammatical control is inconsistent, with frequent errors in verb forms, agreement, and punctuation. Examples of errors include 'citizens... even goes' (subject-verb agreement), 'these kind of games' (demonstrative and noun agreement), 'are palyed' (spelling/passive voice error), 'reasons illustrates' (subject-verb agreement), and run-on sentences or missing punctuation boundaries. While these errors do not completely obscure meaning, they occur frequently enough to prevent the response from achieving a Band 6.5, making Band 5.5 a more accurate representation of the student's current grammatical accuracy.
