Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The student attempts to address all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—that international sports events bring countries together and that they create competition and conflict—while also clearly stating a personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive, relying on broad generalisations rather than deep elaboration. For instance, the discussion of tourism and economic benefits in the second body paragraph remains basic, and the explanation of political engagement in the third paragraph is underdeveloped and slightly unclear. While a clear position is maintained throughout, the supporting examples lack precision. Consequently, this performance aligns closely with Band 5 descriptors, as the task is addressed, but ideas remain underdeveloped.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response is organized into clear paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs exploring different views, and a conclusion. Transitional markers such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' are utilized to signal progression. However, the overall cohesion is often mechanical and sometimes faulty. For example, referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like 'If a event is happening in the Paris, so much public will gether at one place', where pronoun and demonstrative reference breaks down. Additionally, the logical flow between sentences within paragraphs is disjointed due to phrasing issues. Because of these noticeable weaknesses in cohesive devices and overall progression, a band score of 5.0 is appropriate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary suitable for discussing sports and international relations, using terms such as 'international sports event', 'economy', 'competition', and 'partnership'. However, there are frequent errors in word choice, collocation, and spelling throughout the essay. Examples include 'aruguement', 'postivite', 'opimion', 'gether', 'commeners', 'oppotunities', 'hatered', and 'Althrough'. These lexical errors and incorrect word formations cause noticeable difficulty for the reader at times and prevent the response from achieving a higher band. The vocabulary is generally basic and repetitive, fitting the criteria for Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak. Frequent grammatical errors occur throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('such big events is going on', 'Some other believes', 'These event will creat'), article misuse ('in the Paris', 'a event'), and awkward prepositional phrases ('at the besides'). Punctuation and sentence boundary errors are also present, such as comma splices and fragments ('For example, If one country win the match other country loose and oppenent audience will povoke them and it leads to an conflicting.'). Because attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty and errors cause constant strain for the reader, the writing falls into the Band 5 category.
