Student answer (Band 5.5)
A few individuals believe that international sports events, like The Olympics or the Football World Cup, are a good way to bring countries together, while others say that these events creat competition, not friendship, between countries. I believe that these events can creat good relationship between countries because it gives people an opportunities to meet new people and help them learn their behaviours and choices. In this essay, I will discuss both views and provide my opinion.
On the one hand, it often argued by others that international sports events are best way to bring countries together. This is because it gives them a chance to meet people from different cultures, so they can learn about their religeous, traditions and customs. These knowledge may improve their understanding and help them identify thier strength and weakness. For example, people who take participate in the Football World Cup, they may easily understand other people's choice, weakness and strength . In addition, it also helps them learn cooperation and teamwork which can be beneficial for achieving their goals. Therefore, these events can be useful to bring countrie together and achieve their success.
On the other hand, some people believe that these events can creat competions because different people have different attitude towards their cultures, traditions and countries. It can increase competion between countries because opponents want to win for their countries. They interested in improving their countries success.
In conclusion, although international sports events can creat competion and spoil relationship between them, I believe that these events provide with them better understanding between them and help them meet local people and learn new cultures. These is important in countries success and achieve goals.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that international sports events bring countries together and that they create competition—while also providing a clear personal opinion. The student's position is presented in the introduction and reinforced in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas in the body paragraphs tends to be somewhat repetitive and lacks specific, concrete examples beyond vague generalizations about cultures, traditions, and strengths. For instance, the discussion of the Football World Cup remains underdeveloped. Overall, the ideas adequately cover the prompt, aligning best with a Band 6.0 descriptor.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different views and the writer's opinion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In addition' are employed to guide the reader through the text, although referencing and linking can occasionally feel mechanical. For example, the transition into the third body paragraph is abrupt, and pronouns like 'them' in the conclusion have ambiguous referents. Despite these flaws in cohesion, the progression of ideas is generally clear, supporting a Band 6.0 score.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'cooperation', 'traditions', and 'international sports events'. However, there are numerous spelling errors throughout the essay, including 'creat' instead of create, 'religeous' instead of religious, 'thier' instead of their, and 'competions' instead of competitions. Additionally, there are awkward word choices and collocation slips, such as 'take participate' instead of 'take part'. These lexical and spelling inaccuracies occur frequently and occasionally strain the reader, fitting comfortably within the Band 5.0 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several subject-verb agreement errors, such as 'A few individuals believe... while others say...' paired with 'I believe that these events can creat good relationship... because it gives', as well as missing articles ('best way' instead of 'the best way', 'These knowledge' instead of 'This knowledge'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, their frequency prevents the essay from reaching a higher band, making a Band 5.5 the most accurate reflection of the student's control.
