Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, whether overseas games programs such as The Olympics or the Football World Cup are building a great relationships between nations or it is just a competition has gained a significant attention across various platform and communities. Although opinions on this complex issue naturally vary, I strongly believe that these kind of events bring nation together.

The primary justification for this prospective is the broader positive impact it can have on the nations at large,. To be precise, people from the different cultures and nations meet and interact with each other. In this way, they develop interest in other country's culture and tradition. To provide a real world illustration for this dynamic in action, recently in FIFA World cup, Norway gained so much popularity and research shows that information related to Norway was become most search thing during FIFA World cup. This evidence clearly demonstrates the considerable practical value of this progressive strategy.

Admittedly, any major societal shift comes with valid concerns, and hater toward opposite team cannot be completely ignored. To further illustrate this specific drawback, due to national pride, people focused on defeating the other country which sometime converted into arguments and physical violence. However, provided there is sensible management and appropriate regulatory oversight, this underlying issue can be successfully mitigated over time. Therefore, we should still prioritize these events can bring countries together, rather than being discouraged by these short-term challenges.

In conclusion, after carefully evaluating the various aspects of pro and cons of International sports events the most logical course of action becomes evident. I firmly maintain that sports events can help to maintain good between the nations is an effective approach moving forward. While concerns regarding spreading hater due to competitions are certainly valid and require attention, the long-term societal advantages ultimately outweigh any temporary setbacks. With careful planning and execution, this strategy can contribute to a more balanced and prosperous future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on international sports events—whether they foster friendship or create competition—and clearly presents a personal opinion in the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Ideas are extended and supported, such as the example regarding the FIFA World Cup and Norway's popularity. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalise, and some supporting points could be further elaborated. For instance, the counter-argument regarding national pride leading to conflict is raised but resolved rather quickly. Overall, the prompt is well-covered, and the student maintains a clear position throughout, fulfilling the requirements for Band 6.5, rounded to 6.0 based on the balance of development.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, moving logically from the introduction to supporting body paragraphs and a definitive conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'The primary justification', 'Admittedly', and 'In conclusion', though some referencing is occasionally faulty or mechanical, as seen in phrases like 'these kind of events bring nation together'. Paragraphs generally have clear central topics, but transitions between sentences could sometimes be smoother to enhance the overall flow. The progression of ideas is discernible, placing it comfortably in the Band 6 territory.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'prospective' (intended as perspective), 'regulatory oversight', and 'mitigated'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and morphological errors throughout the text, such as 'building a great relationships' instead of 'building great relationships', 'bring nation together' instead of 'bring nations together', and 'spreading hater' instead of 'spreading hatred'. These errors do not impede communication, as the reader can easily grasp the intended meaning, but they prevent the score from rising into the higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over clause structures with subordinating conjunctions like 'Although opinions on this complex issue...' and 'While concerns regarding...'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in article usage, singular/plural agreement, and word forms, such as 'these kind of events', 'information related to Norway was become', and 'good between the nations'. Punctuation is also occasionally clumsy, such as the comma splice in 'at large,'. Despite these errors, meaning is rarely obscured, showing a solid Band 5.5 to 6.0 level of control.
