Student answer (Band 5.0)

Many people around the world believe that international events in sports like the Olympics or world cup creates competitions, and some say they bring countries together. i believe this is a good way to bring countries together

Many people all over the world attend international sports events like the Olympics and the football World Cup. the brings diffrenet culthers and ethnicities together in one location. People come to enjoy and celebrate their countries. These sporting events allows to show off thier people talents to the world. Another benefit is that these events helps to generate income for the hosting countries.

On the other hand, sporting events create too much chaos as well. The fans of different teams have fought and conflicted with other teams' fans in the past; many have destroyed stadiums and rallies within the cities in support of their teams. Also, these events bring a lot of people to one city or area, which brings a lot of congestion to the city

In my opinion, friendly competition should be encourage, government should monitor and regulator the events more to reduce and control the fans more

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address both views on international sports events and gives a personal opinion, as seen in the opening and concluding sections. However, the ideas are severely limited and under-developed due to the brevity of the response. The text contains only 187 words, failing to meet the minimum requirement of 250 words. Because of this significant under-length, the task is only partially addressed, preventing the writer from fully exploring the arguments or extending their examples. While the overall stance is clear, the lack of adequate word count and development restricts the score under the Band 5 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into logical paragraphs, separating the introduction, the supporting view, the opposing view, and the conclusion. There is a basic arrangement of ideas, but the progression overall is somewhat abrupt due to the short length of the text. Cohesive devices are minimal or absent; for instance, the second paragraph opens abruptly with 'the brings diffrenet culthers' without proper linking or referencing. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal cohesion often feels mechanical or disjointed, reflecting features typical of Band 5.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with several noticeable spelling and word choice errors that detract from the quality of the response. Examples include spelling mistakes such as 'diffrenet', 'culthers', 'thier', 'regulator', and grammatical slips like 'creates competitions' (referring to events) and 'events allows to show off'. There is little evidence of less common lexical items, and the range is limited to what is minimally adequate for the topic, aligning closely with a Band 5 score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but the grammatical control is weak. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and punctuation, such as 'events helps', 'sporting events allows to show off', and missing full stops at the ends of sentences. Additionally, comma splices appear in the final sentence ('friendly competition should be encourage, government should monitor...'). These persistent errors and limited structural control place the writing firmly in the Band 5 category.
