Student answer (Band 6.5)
It has been argued that international relations between countries are greatly improved by hosting sporting events like olympics and worldcups. While others are of the opinion that it instead motivates unhealthy competition among countries. This essay will examine both the views before presenting my own opinion.
On one hand sporting competions can be beneficial for the country in many ways. One of the reasons why these competitions are considered crucial for countries because they greatly encourage friendly international realtions amont two countires. Counties make good progress on the front of trade and commerce and other important partnerships which could help both the countries to tackle several issues globally. For example- When such sporting events take place, their government of the participating countries have an excellend opportunity to engage in diplomatic talks to strentghen the diplomatic ties between them and make trade and other commerce deals.
Another important reason other than internation relations is that it effectively promotes cultural exchanges getween countries. When countries take part in world championships players often travel to foreign countries to attend the events so they gets a good chance of exploring the country and get to know thier traditions, culture, way of living life and several other things. For example - Indian cricket team visit different countries for the cricket tournaments and they keep updating their viewers about their status's and the places they are visiting on social media pages. Thats how we can expore and exchange the cultural traditions to others and get to know about them.
On the other hand such competitions can create a sense of national prestige between countries. when both the teams play against each other they get emotionally so invested in the games that they just think of winning the game. Therefore, this VS them mentality beccomes more important that any thing for them they do do not think of any other thing. For example- Countries like USA when participates in international games, they are seem so focused and into the games they dont even greet their opponent before the start of the games and makes a do or die situation for them to win the games.
In conclusion, Although sport competions can some times create a sense of rivalry and unhealthy competitions with other countries, they also provide a boost in the diplomatic relations among bothe the countries and help create new opportunites for partnerships Therefore in my opinion, it positively impacts the relations between the countries and boosts economic cooperation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The candidate addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that international sports events foster unity and diplomacy, and that they create unhealthy rivalry and nationalism—while also providing a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. Ideas are adequately extended and supported with relevant examples, such as the mention of diplomatic talks and cultural exchanges involving the Indian cricket team. However, some arguments exhibit a tendency to over-generalise or lean slightly repetitive, and certain examples (like the assertion about USA athletes not greeting opponents) are anecdotal and overly broad. Overall, the response fulfills the requirements for Band 6.5 to 7.0, showing a clear position and well-developed supporting arguments, leading to a solid Band 7 rating.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a clear logical organisation and overall progression from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points, such as diplomatic benefits, cultural exchanges, and the counter-argument regarding national prestige. Cohesive devices are employed, including transitional phrases like 'On one hand', 'Another important reason', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and cohesion are occasionally faulty or mechanical—for example, the sentence structure 'One of the reasons why these competitions are considered crucial for countries because they...' is grammatically incomplete and disrupts the smooth flow. Paragraphing and transitions are generally clear, but minor mechanical links place this firmly in the Band 6 category.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The candidate uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and phrasal concepts such as 'diplomatic talks', 'cultural exchanges', and 'unhealthy competition'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'olympics' (lowercase), 'worldcups', 'realtons amont two countires', 'excellend', 'strentghen', 'status's', 'expore', and 'competions'. While these lexical errors and minor typos do not impede overall communication, they demonstrate a lack of precision that prevents the score from reaching a higher band. The lexical resource aligns well with the Band 6 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in structure with dependent clauses and conditional ideas. However, frequent grammatical and punctuation errors persist. Notable issues include missing articles ('government of the participating countries'), run-on expressions ('Thats how we can expore'), incomplete clauses ('considered crucial for countries because they...'), and awkward punctuation like hyphenation errors ('VS them'). Furthermore, subject-verb agreement slips occur, such as 'players often travel... so they gets'. While these errors rarely completely impede understanding, their frequency across the text prevents the achievement of a Band 7. The grammar profile corresponds to a Band 6.
