Student answer (Band 5.0)

To begin with, some individuals believe that international sports events, such as the Olympics or the FIFA World Cup, are a beneficial way to bring countries together. Others argue that these events organise competition, not friendship, on a global scale.

From my perspective, I partially agree with both views. Many countries hold competitions and other games on a global scale. These include the Olympics and the world's most popular sport, the FIFA World Cup. There are no aspects that bring countries together. For instance, some people are fond of watching football, and the competition is held in another city; many of us can not go to watch the game. However, in those competitions, spectators are very encouraging, and sometimes they are aggressive toward the opponents' supporters and team also. Additionally, this is beneficial for those countries that host these events in their country because globally many of us buy tickets and support our favorite team. Moreover, this strategy works for the country's wealth and its promotion for future tourism.

On the other hand, it has been noticed that people who travel internationally, for any reason, such as to watch the Olympics and FIFA World Cup. they have more experience than others. Moreover, They delightedto share their experiences and culture, and traditions with others. For instance, they believe that hosting events globally makes people unwind and bring that spirit to learn and grow together.

In conclusion, this topic has both views. Some people like to do recreational activities, including watching games or support their team as hobbay and many of can not afforad so that claim to these their is no friendship zones between countries.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The student attempts to address all parts of the task by discussing both views on international sports events and providing a partial opinion in the introduction. However, the development of ideas lacks clarity and depth in places. For example, the statement 'There are no aspects that bring countries together' contradicts the premise of the prompt and is confusingly followed by arguments about economic benefits and tourism. The reasoning becomes somewhat disjointed, and the personal position is not consistently maintained throughout the essay. While relevant ideas such as cultural exchange and economic impacts are touched upon, they are under-developed and occasionally contradictory, placing this response at Band 5.5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into distinct paragraphs, showing an attempt at structure. However, logical progression is frequently disrupted. Transitional phrases like 'To begin with' and 'On the other hand' are used, but sentences within paragraphs often lack smooth connections. For instance, the transition from football viewership to aggressive supporters and then immediately to hosting economic benefits feels abrupt. Furthermore, referencing is sometimes unclear, as seen in the sentence 'They delightedto share their experiences...', where pronoun reference and punctuation are faulty. Overall progression stalls, and cohesion relies on repetitive patterns, leading to a Band 5.0 score.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses a limited vocabulary range with several noticeable errors that occasionally hinder comprehension. Phrases like 'organise competition' instead of 'create competition', and 'strategy works for the country's wealth' demonstrate awkward collocations. There are also typographical and spelling errors, such as 'delightedto' and 'hobbay'. While common terms are used adequately to discuss sports and tourism, the attempt to use less common vocabulary results in inaccurate word choices (e.g., 'many of can not afforad so that claim to these their is no friendship zones'). This vocabulary profile fits the Band 5.0 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and attempted complex sentence structures, but grammatical accuracy is weak. There are frequent sentence boundary errors and fragments, such as starting a new sentence with 'they have more experience than others' or ending abruptly with incomplete thoughts like 'many of can not afforad so that claim to these their is no friendship zones between countries'. Subject-verb agreement and tense consistency also pose challenges throughout the text. Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader in grasping the exact meaning, a Band 5.0 is appropriate.
