Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many individuals think that international sports events, such as The Olympics or the Football World Cup, are a better way to bring countries closer, while others argue that these events create competition instead of friendship between countries. Although both views have their own merits, I believe that such events are a good way to improve international relationships.
On the one hand, people believe that sports events, such as The Olympics or the Football World Cup can significantly improve international relationships among countries. To elaborate it, such international events involve participants and spectators from all around the world, which give chance to present country's tradition, culture and hospitality. Therefore, appropriate management and event arrangement can left a postive impression on people's mind who came from different corners of the world. As a result, such events create a good and respectful image of the country on a global level, and give a chance to improve relationships with the other countries. Ultimately, sports events are a good way to bring countries together.
On the other hand, some poeple argue that these events create competition between countries because it creates a sense of superiority of the country than other countries. In such events, if one nation win more medals than other country than it creates a sense of jealosy and competition between nations which can negatively affect their relationship.
To conclude, although some argue that international sports events create competition and affect relation between countries negatively. i strongly believe that such sports events give chance to present traditions and cultures and show country's hospitality which can bring countries even more closer and strengthen their bondings.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task, discussing both the view that sports events bring countries together and the opposing view that they create competition, while clearly stating the author's own opinion in the introduction and conclusion. Ideas are relevant, with explanations regarding cultural presentation and hospitality versus rivalry and jealousy over medal counts. However, some arguments remain somewhat repetitive and under-developed, relying on general statements rather than fully extended examples. For instance, the discussion on how cultural exchange improves relationships could be supported by a specific example, such as the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games. Nevertheless, a clear position is maintained throughout, satisfying the requirements for a Band 6.5 or solid Band 6 descriptor level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a clear overall arrangement with a standard four-paragraph structure comprising an introduction, two body paragraphs representing opposing views, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately. Logical progression is generally maintained through transitional phrases such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'To conclude'. However, some cohesive devices feel mechanical or are used with slight awkwardness, such as 'To elaborate it,' and referencing is occasionally imprecise. Furthermore, the final paragraph begins with a lowercase 'i', which reflects a minor mechanical oversight. Overall, cohesion is functional and provides a coherent progression, aligning with Band 6 standards.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and thematic phrases such as 'international relationships', 'hospitality', 'positive impression', and 'sense of superiority'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'are a better way' (where 'an effective way' or 'a good way' is more suitable since no comparison was introduced previously), 'can left a postive impression' (incorrect verb form and spelling), and 'if one nation win' (subject-verb agreement). Spelling errors like 'poeple', 'jealosy', and 'postive' indicate that lexical control is inconsistent. These issues restrict the score to Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures, such as 'which give chance to present country's tradition' and 'if one nation win more medals... then it creates...'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly involving articles ('present country's tradition' instead of 'a country's traditions'), subject-verb agreement ('one nation win', 'people believe... can left'), and punctuation/capitalization in the conclusion ('negatively. i strongly believe'). While these errors do not impede overall communication, they persist across the text, preventing the response from achieving a higher band score where error-free complex sentences are more frequent.
