Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is argued by some people that international sports events like the Olympics or the football world cup, is a great method of bringing comunities closer, however others argue that it only create competition. This essay will discuss both views in the following paragraphs.
Understandably, international sports gives us chance to travel and explore other nations. While doing so, people learn about the cuture and traditions of other countries. That further help countires to celebrate different occations together. As a result bond between those countries become stronger. For example, when Canada hosted FIFA world cup people from different countries went to watch. By doing so they do not only gained knowledge about Canadian society, but also got a chance to visit and meet locals.
On the other hand, it does increase competition through pressure created by the supporters of different countires. This is because when a team or player does not perform well, the opponent teams or individuals bully them. Not only that resident of different countires also feight or debate about it. Not to mention hate comments and videos are usally seen on social media. For example, Arshdeep Singh, a famous crickter, was trolled for boiling 7 wide boils in an over. As a result a debate between the supporters and heaters of him created on social media. Thus, it is true to say that such sports enhance competition.
To conclude, it is certainly true that sports events are helpful in building good connection between different countries, through sharing culture and cuisines, but fact that people mostly argue about performances, which creates a competition can not be denied either.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on international sports events and providing an opinion in the conclusion. However, some ideas are under-developed or lack sufficient depth. For instance, the point about cultural exchange through travel is mentioned in the second paragraph, such as when Canada hosted the FIFA world cup, but the explanation remains somewhat generalized without fully exploring how this fosters deep international unity. Similarly, the counter-argument regarding competition introduces a specific cricket example involving Arshdeep Singh, but the connection between individual player scrutiny and broader international friction is limited. The student maintains a stance throughout, but the development of supporting arguments remains restricted, placing the response at this level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The text presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical structure that moves from an introduction to body paragraphs discussing both perspectives and a final conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, separating distinct arguments effectively. Cohesive devices are employed to guide the reader, such as 'On the other hand', 'To conclude', and 'As a result'. However, referencing and cohesion are occasionally mechanical or slightly repetitive, and certain transitions feel abrupt. To reach higher bands, the writer would need to ensure smoother progression between sentences and more sophisticated, flexible use of referencing without relying on repetitive connective phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the main ideas. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'international sports events', 'traditions', and 'opponent teams', but there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally detract from the precision of the writing. Examples include spelling inaccuracies like 'comunities' instead of communities, 'cuture' instead of culture, 'occations' instead of occasions, 'countires' instead of countries, 'feight' instead of fight, 'usally' instead of usually, and 'heaters' instead of haters. These lexical slips and spelling mistakes reflect an adequate rather than fully controlled range, keeping the lexical score at this level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting complex structures through subordinate clauses like 'While doing so, people learn about...' and 'when Canada hosted...'. However, there is a limited range of structures used flexibly, and frequent grammatical errors occur across the text. These include subject-verb agreement issues, such as 'international sports gives us' instead of give, and 'others argue that it only create' instead of creates. Additionally, there are minor missing articles and preposition errors, such as 'a debate between the supporters and heaters of him created'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to characterize the grammatical control at this band level.
