Student answer (Band 6.0)
While some people argue that international sports programmes, like The Olympics or the Football World Cup tend to bring countries together, others argue that they may create rivalry rather than friendship between countries. This essay will discuss both prespectives and argue that although international sports events can create competition among nations, they are more likely to promote friendship and strengthen the relationship between countries.
International sports events are an excellent way to brings countries together. When an event occurs in nation, people from different countries come together, they exchange their culture when they meet and experience different things. This will help to reduce cultural misunderstanding among people of diverse nationality. When athletes, fans and visitors meet during competition they build relationships that strengthen the bond between countries and bring harmony. Thus, it helps to improve the image of other nations among visitors.
International sports events can create rivalry between countries because teams compete against each other for victory. Sometimes supporters may become too emotional and intense when their team is at edge of winning or losing. For example, football matches between countries have a long history of rivalry when arguments between supporters create tension on social media.
In conclusion, international sports events sometimes create competition or rivalry among nations when the competition become intense. However, Organizing sports programmes between nations promote cultural exchange, bring harmony among nations, strengthen relationships. In my opinion, their ability to bring people together outweigh the disadvantages of competition.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on international sports events and presenting your own clear position in the introduction and conclusion. However, the length requirement is not met, as your essay contains 243 words, falling short of the required 250-word minimum. While your ideas are generally relevant, some are left under-developed. For example, your second body paragraph mentions that visitors 'experience different things' and 'reduce cultural misunderstanding,' but this point is not fully extended with a specific supporting example. To reach a higher level, you need to ensure you consistently meet the minimum word count and expand all of your supporting arguments with deeper explanations or concrete illustrations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
Your essay demonstrates a clear overall progression and logical organisation throughout. You use a standard four-paragraph structure effectively, with each paragraph having a distinct focus: introduction, views supporting unity, views supporting rivalry, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used adequately to connect your ideas, such as 'While some people argue,' 'When an event occurs,' and 'In conclusion.' However, referencing is occasionally slightly repetitive, and paragraph transitions could be smoother with more varied cohesive links. To move to a higher band, you should aim for more sophisticated and flexible management of cohesion, ensuring that reference words and conjunctions link your ideas seamlessly without any mechanical feel.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'cultural misunderstanding,' 'rivalry,' and 'social media.' However, there are several word choice and collocation inaccuracies. For instance, you wrote 'brings countries together' instead of 'bring countries together' and 'at edge of winning' instead of 'on the edge of winning' or 'close to winning.' Spelling is generally good, but these occasional slips in word form and collocation prevent the vocabulary from feeling precise. To achieve a higher score, you should focus on using less common lexical items more accurately and with a stronger awareness of natural collocations in English.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You show a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures such as conditional and concessive clauses, as seen in 'While some people argue that...' and 'When athletes, fans and visitors meet...'. There are some grammatical errors in your writing, particularly with prepositions and article usage, such as 'in nation' instead of 'in a nation' and 'when the competition become intense' instead of 'becomes intense.' Nevertheless, these errors are relatively minor and rarely impede communication. To attain a higher band, you must increase the proportion of error-free sentences and demonstrate a tighter control over complex grammatical structures and subject-verb agreement.
