Student answer (Band 6.0)
While some people argue international sports events such as Olympics or Football world cup bring different countries together while other argue they create competition between the two. Although in sports individuals believe it creates competition and not friendshipsbetween the counties when cross-regional events happen, I support the latter view because hosting sporting events in different countries can help create good friendship between countries and they create alot of opportunities.
On the one hand, there are individuals who believes that hosting sports events and inviting other countries team can create unnecessary competition. Moreover, if there are political conflicts between the two counties then they will treat the opposite as their competition. For example, in 2009, Football world cup was hosted in Spain had a match between Spain vs Canada and since the relation between the countries are not best, they had to cancel the group stage matches between them.
On the other hand, hosting events in different countries can help them create friendship which can help them grow together. Furthermore, hosting events in different countries can help players learn about different cultures of the society and can create multiple job opportunities. For instance, Ahmedabad will host Olympics 2030 which will create around 25,000 job opportunities which will contribute to about 5% in the Indian Economy.
In conclusion, although hosting events in different countries creates competition, I firmly believe that it is a good way to unite countries. There should be competitions around the world in order for an individual to grow but it should be limited to sports and not the geopolitics.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on international sports events and providing a personal opinion, which earns it a solid standing. You successfully state your position in the introduction and reiterate it in the conclusion. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, your argument about economic growth and job opportunities mentioning Ahmedabad hosting the Olympics 2030 is quite specific and well-illustrated. In contrast, other points remain somewhat general and underdeveloped, such as how political conflicts interfere with matches or how players learn different societal cultures. To move to a higher level, ensure that every main idea is extended with fully explained consequences or deeper reasoning rather than relying on brief mentions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
Your essay has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear structure that includes an introduction, distinct body paragraphs for each opposing view, and a concluding paragraph. You use standard cohesive devices to guide the reader through your arguments, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. Nevertheless, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or slightly faulty. For example, the transition between ideas within paragraphs could be smoother, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun use in 'hosting events in different countries can help them create friendship which can help them grow together'. To achieve a higher score, work on integrating cohesive devices more naturally and ensuring that logical relationships between sentences are tightly bound.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'geopolitics', 'unnecessary competition', and 'economic growth'. However, there are some word choice and spelling inaccuracies that prevent a higher score, such as 'alot' (which should be 'a lot'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing like 'friendshipsbetween the counties' where spacing and collocation need attention. Your vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey your meaning, but slips in word form and spelling occur. To improve your lexical score, focus on precise word choices, correct spelling, and natural collocations without relying on repetitive terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating your ability to construct compound and subordinate clauses using conjunctions like 'although', 'because', and 'while'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing prepositions, pluralization issues ('countries team' instead of 'countries' teams' or 'country's team'), and tense consistency problems like 'Football world cup was hosted in Spain had a match'. Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication and the reader can easily follow your core meaning. To reach the next level, you need to produce a higher proportion of error-free complex sentences and maintain strict control over agreement and article usage.
