Student answer (Band 5.0)

There are lots of International sports happening and one of them is football. This is one of the popular game in Europe & USA. They play beteen neighbouring countries initailly before they are playing for an international world cup. They are so many league matches played between Europeon countries and they do host Euro cup once in for two years.

Once after this Euro cup, there is internation football world cup which occurs once in four years. There are almost 30+ countries participating from worldwide and one team wins the tiltle of world championship with great rewards and international world cup trophy. This si great event where so many countries come toegther to play and show their talent. I would say this good opportunity for international players to come forward and meet different players of different countries. In one way this is good to know and have freindships.

On the other hand, some people think it creates a competition between two countries but iin actual it's not but instead it is a part of the game. Some countries have revarallies between them and when they face each other in a game like football, they focus and play their game as enemies. One should not bring all this political issues during the game and each team should play their own way considering it's a game. Looking at the opportunities that they play such games with different countries and making their home country feel proud after they become world champs.

In short each players should look it as a game and not as enemies. Be sportive!

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially. While the student touches upon both views regarding international sports events bringing countries together versus creating competition and rivalries, the ideas are limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion on political issues and rivalries in the third paragraph is superficial and lacks extension with relevant examples. Furthermore, the position is not always clearly sustained throughout the essay, as the argument wanders into descriptive accounts of football tournaments, such as how often the Euro cup or World Cup occurs, rather than fully answering the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is some basic organisation with paragraph breaks separating different points, but the text lacks a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are either inadequate, inaccurate, or overused, leading to a repetitive flow. For example, the transitional phrases and referencing are weak, such as starting multiple sentences and paragraphs abruptly ('Once after this Euro cup', 'In short each players'). Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical connections between sentences need significant strengthening to guide the reader smoothly through the arguments.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices that can cause some difficulty for the reader, such as 'revarallies' (rivalries), 'tiltle' (title), and 'political issues' used where diplomatic or national tensions might be meant. The student attempts to use less common sporting vocabulary like 'championship' and 'sportive', but spelling and word-form errors, including 'initailly', 'Europeon', and 'toegther', restrict the lexical score to this level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences, while attempts at complex or compound sentences are frequently faulty. There are persistent grammatical errors throughout the response, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('There are so many league matches... and they do host', 'each players should look'), article omissions, and awkward prepositions. Punctuation and word forms within grammatical patterns also show frequent errors that occasionally strain comprehension, such as 'They play beteen neighbouring countries initailly before they are playing'.
