Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response responds to the task only minimally and fails to meet the required 250-word minimum, falling significantly short at 184 words. While the essay attempts to address both views on international sports events and states an opinion, the ideas are extremely limited and under-developed. For example, the student mentions that events allow people to share emotions like 'laugh and sorrow', but this point is not extended or supported with relevant details. The position is repetitive and lacks sufficient elaboration across all sections of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation attempted through introductory and concluding framing, but the essay lacks clear overall progression. Paragraphing is attempted, but the paragraphs are underdeveloped and fail to structure the argument effectively. Cohesive devices are minimal, mechanical, and frequently inaccurate, such as repetitive transitions like 'first of all', 'some people say', and 'Furthermore'. Referencing is also problematic, making the logical flow disjointed and difficult for the reader to follow throughout the response.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, utilizing high-frequency words that restrict the quality of the response. There are frequent spelling errors and incorrect word forms that strain the reader, such as 'belive' for believe, 'batter potion' for better option, 'contries' for countries, 'shaer' for share, 'luagh' for laugh, 'crate' for create, 'winer' for winning, 'failer' for losing, 'empration' for impression, and 'conciusion' for conclusion. These lexical limitations and frequent inaccuracies impede clear communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is very limited, relying almost exclusively on basic sentence patterns with frequent errors that distort meaning. There are persistent errors in verb forms, tenses, subject-verb agreement, prepositions, and punctuation. For instance, phrases like 'olympics games are a better option' and 'in this events many contries people are together' demonstrate weak control over basic syntactic structures. Punctuation and spacing are also poorly handled, with spaces missing after commas throughout the entire text, leading to frequent errors that cause difficulty for the reader.
