Student answer (Band 6.0)
People have different views about whether international sports like Football, cricket, or olympics bring countries closer. While others argue that instead of closeness it develops rivalry. I believe that it is a good way to foster harmony and heal divisions .
On the one hand, many supporters believe that it gives a chance to show case their talent to the world. The positive and the negative sides of each player during sports allow audience to relate with them and admire them. For example, Ronaldo, a Portugal player, is known and liked by younger generation all over the world. This creates a huge reputation for a player as well as for the country. As a result, people prefer to visit those countries more. Sports has a great impact on all age groups but especially on younger people.
On the other hand, others argue that inspite of creating a stronger bond between countries, it creates competition. If it is not harming anything ,it is good. For instance, India and Pakistan, the real rivalries, people from their countries take win or lose to their personal level. This develops jealousy and anger which allows people to verbally abuse players and countries on social media. Consequently, it promotes disrespect and aggression. Furthermore, this disrupts the whole identity of a nation, create distance and spread hatred among countries.
In conclusion, both sides have valid points. Sports bring countries closer While, it creates competition as well. I strongly believe that it has a big impact overall it strengthen cooperation, enhance collaboration and ensure social cohesion.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You discuss both views and state a clear opinion in the introduction and conclusion: you see international sport as a way to foster harmony despite its competitive side. The examples of Ronaldo’s international popularity and India–Pakistan rivalry are relevant and help illustrate the two positions. However, the first view is developed mainly through a player’s reputation and tourism, rather than explaining directly how shared sporting events bring countries together. The opposing view is clearer, but the claim that rivalry can “disrupt the whole identity of a nation” is broad and not explained. To strengthen the response, explain the mechanisms behind each view and develop each example with a specific consequence or detail.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion that restates your position. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” makes the progression easy to follow. Some connections between ideas are less clear or mechanical, however. For example, “If it is not harming anything, it is good” interrupts the explanation of competition and does not clearly connect to the following example. The conclusion’s “While” also creates an awkward link between two points. Use transitions that express the precise relationship between ideas, and make references such as “it” unambiguous. This would make the cohesion smoother while preserving the effective paragraph structure.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “foster harmony,” “rivalries,” “aggression,” “cooperation,” and “social cohesion.” These choices help communicate your main ideas, and the meaning is generally clear. There are some inaccurate or unnatural word choices and collocations, such as “show case their talent,” “take win or lose to their personal level,” and “disrupts the whole identity of a nation.” Spelling and form also need attention in “inspite” and “olympics.” Aim for more precise, natural expressions and check compound words and proper names. For instance, describe supporters as taking a result personally, and explain more specifically whether rivalry damages relations or encourages hostility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses beginning “While” and “If,” and most of your meaning remains understandable. Some grammatical errors occur, particularly with agreement, sentence structure, articles, and punctuation. For example, “Sports has a great impact” should use a plural verb, while “it strengthen cooperation” needs a correctly inflected verb. The opening “While others argue…” is a dependent clause presented as a sentence, and “Furthermore, this disrupts …, create distance and spread hatred” does not maintain a consistent verb form. Commas and spacing around punctuation are also inconsistent. Practise checking each sentence for a complete main clause, subject–verb agreement, and parallel verb forms; this will improve accuracy without limiting your range.
