Student answer (Band 6.0)
There is an ongoing debate about whether some people believe that the international sports events such as The Olympic and Football World Cup attract friendships while others agrue that these games rises though competetion between nations. In my perspective, these sports play significant role in bringing different countries together but these sports also create competetion between viewers and players. This essay will discuss both views and state my opinion.
On the one hand, international sports events bring countries together in several ways. Athletes from various places play, eat and live together in one place, this shows their respect toward eachother. Moreover, they also have opportunity to communicate and understand different cultures. For instance, with understanding and better communication, players show respect and dignity for other players even they are competing against each other.
On the other hand, it is true that international sporting events create competition among different countries. Athletes and countries compete to win medals and trophies. Owing to this, supporters also become highly emotional about the game's result. In some cases, strong nation pride may lead to arguments between fans. For example, football matches betwen traditional rival can sometimes create intense competition among supporters. However, this rivalry does not effect relationships between countries.
In conclusion, international sporting events involve both the friendships and competition because teams want to succeed. Nevertheless, I strongly believe that these events increase respect between players and encourage different cultural exchange and communication. Therefore, the ability to connect people together from different nations can be an important benefit of international sporting.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the question and gives a clear overall view: international events can create rivalry, but their benefits for respect and cultural exchange are greater. The two body paragraphs are relevant, with examples involving athletes living together and supporters reacting emotionally. However, some ideas are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, the claim that rivalry “does not effect relationships between countries” is important to your position but is not supported with a reason or example. The friendship argument also focuses mainly on athletes, while the question concerns countries more broadly. Develop these points by explaining how contact among athletes or fans can influence relations between nations, and support the claims with a specific example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion that restates your position. Linking phrases such as “On the one hand,” “Moreover,” and “Nevertheless” help readers follow the discussion, and the ideas generally progress logically within each paragraph. This meets the lower-band expectations and shows some stronger control through clear paragraphing and a consistent line of argument. To make the progression more fluent, avoid formulaic transitions and strengthen links between claims and examples. For example, the football-rivalry example would connect more clearly if you explained how it illustrates competition without damaging international relationships. Also clarify references such as “these sports” and “this” so readers can immediately identify what each refers to.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “international sporting events,” “medals and trophies,” “supporters,” “nation pride,” and “cultural exchange.” These choices make the subject clear, and some phrases show an attempt to express more specific ideas. However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “agrue,” “competetion,” “betwen,” and “effect” where “affect” is intended. Some collocations are also unnatural, such as “attract friendships,” “strong nation pride,” and “traditional rival.” Aim for accurate, natural combinations rather than adding ambitious wording where the fit is uncertain. Proofreading spelling and learning common collocations for sport, rivalry, and international relations would make your vocabulary more effective.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession with “even” and a cause-and-effect structure beginning “Owing to this.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the paragraph structure gives you opportunities to show range. Some grammatical errors remain, however. In the opening, “the international sports events” and “these games rises” have article and subject–verb agreement problems; “play significant role” needs an article. There are also issues in “they also have opportunity” and “even they are competing,” where the sentence patterns are incomplete or inaccurate. Review articles, agreement, and clause construction, then check each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb. Greater accuracy in these areas would make your complex sentences more controlled.
